I Lost An Old Friend
Bill Walker
missourisage@yahoo.com

I lost an old friend in the last few days. I don't know just when and where, but old friend is gone. I have no clue when I parted friendship either. The sad thing is I didn't get to say so long, been nice knowing you, take care of yourself, you I will miss seeing each other every  day, some time or other. I have no clue just what happened. This old friend was kind of a sad looking fellow when I found him. He looked well worn, like he had done much travel in his years. This old friend really wasn't worth much, seems like I have a few of those. But I had taken kind of a liking to him. I think we all have one or two, maybe even a few like that. You could always count on him to tell you something, that is if you really looked at him and did a bit of thinking, and wondering where all old friend had been?

I really had no idea how old my old friend was, you see... My old friend wasn't worth much. Only 10 cents, was his face value; a well worn old dime that is. I found this old friend laying down and out on the sidewalk, or was it a parking lot? I forget. But the old
fellow was laying there, all beat up from his trips up and down in this
world. I picked him up, and noticed his sad condition, did a little rub job on him, and thought to myself a lot of things. Like wonder where this guy has been and how did he get in this state of down and outs?

He really was beat up, nicked and scared from his travels. He sure had seen better days. I first thought I would put him where he wouldn't be in danger of getting spent for something, but then I thought no, put him in the change pocket. He is so bent, beat up, I will hang onto him for ever. And besides he needs the company of other coins I might happen to have, And being how he is so beat up, I will never put him back on
the road again.

Well this morning I reached into the small amount of coins of the realm
I was carrying, and I found old friend and I have parted company somewhere, sometime or other.  Kind of sad, but then I remembered, this happens with real friends.
Sometimes we part company for an unknown reason. Maybe in a hurry, because wrong
things or words  were said, and old friend of many years is gone.

When all is said and done, I have learned there are three friends one
can count on in this world. God, and his Son Jesus, and then there is
old friend the Dog. Well I don't think I should make the Cat people too
upset, so let’s put the Cat in here somewhere. I might by accident
lose a Cat person as a friend if I don't. Already lost the dime for a
friend.
