Never Make It

Bill Walker

missourisage@yahoo.com

I have been thinking about things lately. One of those things is the

small amount of young people that joins some branch of our armed forces.

There is no reason to join an outfit that will make a person  step to a

certain tune. You know, keep regular hours, and learn  to show respect,

follow orders, also make trips around the world trying to teach people

in

other countries how to build an outhouse. I believe General Patton said

something about that during WWII.

I was in a place awhile back, a so-called fine place to dine. Once in a

while I try

a new place  to see if the Chef knows how to boil water. I am told there

is still such a thing as a Chef.

The so-called waiter brings me the menu. He lacks a lot in the fine art

of being a waiter. He has the menu and puts it in front of me, and

starts up mindless talk, and in just seconds asked if I was ready to

order? He will never make it as a real class act waiter. First off,

where is a glass of water, and tools needed for dining, with the menu?

Second thing is he didn't say a proper greeting, and then excuse himself

for a minute or two. Let a person study this thing called a menu, even

if it is a can type of menu. You do know what I am speaking of here? A

canned menu is one that is printed  in NEW YORK, and never changes, no

matter where the chain company puts a dump like this.   In one of

these places if you say  no gravy on the meat, you get told it can't be

done. Gravy comes on the meat, and we cannot serve it with out the

gravy. Never will make it in the Army.

Well I figured out I would spring for a steak. I saw one  listed with a

house salad, and a baked potato. Waiter asked after I  told him, as

plain as a old southern Missouri boy could speak, I would like the

steak, kind of medium, with baked potato, and the salad, with Roquefort

dressing, coffee, and of course their fine corn bread muffins. He asked

if I wanted Ranch dressing, I then knew he didn't know there was a

Roquefort Dressing, so I said Blue Cheese. He will never make it in the

Army. He really would have been lost on Chiffon French dressing.

In a minute or so I have a cup of coffee, and tools, no water. He will

never make it in the Army. Another minute or two and the house salad,

along with Ranch dressing.  Almost before I can have a bite of the

salad, he asks, "How is the salad?" I said "guess it will do, could I

please have a small glass of water?" After a bit he shows up with a

straw, and a large glass of water. I guess for drinking water anymore

one needs a straw.

After a bit he shows up with the steak and baked potato..... Meat was

well done, no medium to it, potato needed another five minutes in the

cooker. The Chef will never make it in the Army.

Then here is the waiter  with the check. I said I believe I asked if the

corn bread came with the meal? So here comes the corn bread. I did get a

refill on coffee. And that was the last time I saw  him.

I put some of the meat in a napkin, cut in small bite size, and carried

it to the car.   Little Girl said the meat was over cooked. The Chef

will never make it in the Army.

 WORK AND FAMILY

Dr. Harmander Singh

Her father was busy in his work. She was feeling sleepy. She had to finish her homework. She went to ask her father about the question of G.K.

"Dad, where is Mount Everest?” she asked.

"Ask your mum, Jane. She puts things here and there,” her father replied.

She could not control her laughter and left the room. She went to her mother.

"Why are you laughing, Jane?” she asked.

"Mum, I asked father if he knew where the Mount Everest was.

Do you know what he said?” she was laughing.

"What did he say?” her mother felt funny about it.

"He said that you put things here and there so you know where it is.” She said and laughed.

Both of them laughed. Her mum added GK to her common sense.

"Jane, go to your father and tell him that it's in his right pocket of the coat,” she said and laughed.

They both laughed again. Jane went to his father who was busy in his work.

"Dad, Mum says that the Mount Everest is in right pocket of your coat,” she said hiding her laughter.

"I told you that your mum knows,” he said while searching the Mount Everest.

"What did he say, Mount Everest!” he burst into laughter and realized that he has his family which was higher than Mount Everest. They laughed together. Then three of them talked about the Mount Everest.

Daily Moral Insight for a Peaceful Night

Are not we having great life, which we are having blessed with so many instances to smile and laugh?

Is not it a beauty of joy that it always shines more and more by sharing?

Is not it great to try to discover Mount Everest in our pocket?

is not it a great pleasure to find out that some of our expressions are pouring smiles on the faces of our fellow humans ?

Is not the Mount Everest sharing its beauty with peaks of joyous of family hood?

Nothing New

Conrad S. Cardinal

Years pass quickly, time moves along.

So many lessons learned, from things

gone wrong.

You hope to pass the knowledge on

to those that follow you.

To help them avoid the mistakes you've

made, so they won't suffer too.

You know if they'd listen, life would be

less complicated.

Unfortunately they think what you have to

say is out dated.

They're no different than you were at that

foolish age.

When you were told what you should do,

you too flew into a rage.

Each of us must learn, through our own

mistakes.

However foolish it may seem and the lack

of sense it makes.

We think that we're unique and what we're

doing has never been done.

The scripture says it's been done before,

there's nothing new under the sun.

Eccl. 1:9

 Questions

Conrad S. Cardinal

Why has God made the earth in color

instead of black and white?

Why are there degrees of light instead

of just day to night?

The earth would be just as functional

with out these things I mention.

For many of us it would make no difference

we pay so little attention.

We take so much for granted, until the end

is near

Never stopping to realize what we really

should hold dear.

If this was a test to see how observant we

are, I'm afraid most would fail.

To appreciate this marvelous work is almost

a travail.

Life is meant to be more than just a means

to an end.

What should be more important,to reach a

goal or to make a friend?

Joy should come from the love we spread

around.

Our world should be a place where kindness

and compassion abound.

If today was your last day of life, would you

be happy with each choice?

Or would you wish that you had taken the

time to listen to His still small voice?
