Give me Jesus, even with pain!

Any other choice would be insane.

Give me suffering, but just enough.

Not so much as to break me, but just so much as to make me tough.

Lord, don't give me everything I ask.

That would make me lazy in my task.

Don't give me too heavy a burden to bear.

Then, I'll just give up and not care.

Since I don't know just how much I can take,

Use your great wisdom when your plans you make.

Hurt me, or help me, in your great cause.

When I need it, make me pause.

Don't let me rely on men's applause.

You have sent me to rescue others. That's more important than anything I might wish.

So, serve up what you will, in a full, or empty dish.
