Storytime Tapestry Newsletter The newsletter devoted to
spreading love and cultural awareness around the world. This column previously ran
by Deepak Morris is now taken over by Gautami Tripathy and now the column will
be written by Dr. Harmander Singh. The purpose of the column
is to bring the culture and joy of mysterious and beautiful India to the world. March 30, 2008 Harmander loves email and
feedback on his work. He would also like to know what topics about India would
appeal to you the reader. Please
contact him at: bhagouauty@gmail.com with your ideas. He, as the Western
and I, as the Eastern Talk and Discuss-III Dr. Harmander Singh After some time, we have another talk. “Well, you see,
even though my father was a great sportsman, he had many troubles,” I say. “Yaw, it seems so,
but I wonder if he had opportunity for a good job as you say he is a good
player?” he says. “You are right. He
had many opportunities and could have joined any job, as he was the
international player of 12 games. He selected to be a lecturer (teacher) in the
sports. He taught almost 50,000 students and used to deposit the fee of the
poor students, without ever telling them,” I say. “Wow, it seems a
good example, did not he try to earn some many from other works?” he says. “No, you see he
spent almost whole of his day in the college from morning to evening. Moreover,
his books of poems remained ignored, as he did not want to publish it. He wrote
many books, but preferred to be a practical person. He never allowed media
throughout his life for name, fame and limelight and preferred a life of privacy,”
I say. “Well, it seems a
good example, but is this privacy a practical approach?” he asks. “You see the
practical examples may not be the professional ones, however he wanted his
children to be practical not just the bookworms. Thus, he taught and advised us
to learn and earn, so he arranged the cows and buffaloes, so our family worked
and studied, while topping in the respective fields of the studies, is not it a
practical way of living?” I say. “Wow, it sounds
good, could your family members study, while working?” he asks. “Yaw, you see one
of my sister topped in the university for three years in post graduation and in
diploma, she won three national awards. One earned great reputation in the
media and as national level yoga teacher. We always studied and worked, is not
a good achievement?” I say. |
