Dr. Harmander Singh

“Gosh, you know, I went to study abroad and got the merit to enter into the University of Adelaide, South Australia, without knowing even how to speak properly in English language before going there, and now I am writing books in English. I thank my parents and the family for it,” I say.

“I see. It is a good point, so your father and mother managed to help teach five of their kids to study. The four went to graduation level and three of your sisters passed masters degrees, it is a good to hear. Hey, is your father post graduated or have done his doctorate?” he asks.

“Well, as I said sometimes the money makes mare go. I regret that he him self could not complete his masters after passing the first year as the authorities phased the financial support as he was overage to participate in the games as he attained the 26th year of age,” I say.

“Alas, was not there anyone to help him to complete his degree?” he asks.

“Regrettably, there was none to help him financially. Even then it did not distracted him to contribute to the society. You see he is among the founder lecturers, who founded the first government college for Physical Education in the North India. He devoted his life for it, attending the morning, afternoon and evening sessions delivering lectures and conducting the practical for about 35 years. His contribution to the college and the physical education is a legendary. He received honors for it, but usually these are not in the form of money. He set an example to remain a sportsperson for more than 60 years. Today even at the age of 72 he is doing his best. His is the only living legend of India, who is international player of 12 games. It is wonderful, is not it,” I say.

“Wow, I like it. You see his simplicity is setting an example to live a natural life, is not it. Does he reflects on the national and international problems or just lives and enjoys his personal life?” he asks.

“Well, you see while having vast global knowledge about all international problems and issues, as he loves philosophy more than anything. He always gives his neutral opinions on the global problems,” I say.

“Well, it means the human struggle is same everywhere, whether we go to east or the west, is not it,” he says.

“I agree. It is not the place, the circumstances may affect more than the place, where we live,” I say.

“Yaw, the place is just a stage of our human life and we play our part,” he says.

We share the smile as if a cry.
