BANKING WITH MONSTERS

By,

Kathleene S. Baker

You know you??™ve lost all control when you sneak around in order to leave the house peacefully!  I??™ve been known to slip my purse into the garage, as well as my shoes, while the dogs are in another room.  Those items are a dead give away if you hope to get out of this house without a ruckus.

I was simply going to drop off a deposit at the bank drive-through window.  Shiloh and Hank love the doggie treats that are delivered by the mysterious tube, so I decided to take the little monsters along.  After all, it had been a while since they??™d gone along to woof at the tellers.

I should have known it was going to be a bad trip after the wrestling match in the utility room.  My husband has a favorite saying that came to mind:  ???Like sandpapering a lions behind in a phone booth.???  I would just about get Hank??™s collar on when Shiloh would pick up his leash and give it a good yank, and I??™d have to start all over again.  Then I??™d begin to hook Shiloh??™s collar and Hank would high jump her, or shove her, so he would be closest to the door.  One of us, or both of us, would lose our balance; I??™d lose my grip and we??™d being once more.  It should not take ten minutes to attach collars and leashes on two small dogs!

Next was competition to see who could get in the car first, followed by console-standing rights.  Naturally, I keep my trusty towel along to prevent toenail scratches.  Two blocks from the house I made my first stop to scold them, and reposition the towel.  Four blocks further down the road I stopped again for a repeat performance.

At last we arrived at the bank, and I pulled up to grab the tube that would swish my deposit away like magic.  As the window started down, Shiloh launched herself from the back, through the console opening, and landed on my neck.  There she was, lodged between my neck and the headrest and I didn??™t even have the deposit tube in my hand yet.  I ran the window back up so she couldn??™t make an escape, while trying to gain control of the situation.  Somehow she had also tangled her leash with my seatbelt and it took some fancy moves to remove her, since I couldn??™t even see what was hung up on what!  Once she was in the backseat again, I made another attempt to retrieve the tube.  As I was doing so, I noticed a BMW in the next lane.  The lady inside was all decked out in her business suit but her eyes were the size of plates, like she was watching a three-ring circus.  Evidently she??™s never taken her dog to the bank.  Poor neglected pooch.

Oh, finally, sweet success!  The tube was now swishing it??™s way up, up, and away, as I yelled hello to the teller through a two-inch crack in the window.  I noticed she had a strange look on her face too, much like the lady in the BMW.  Maybe they were related?

Soon I heard the tube rattling its way back down the shoot; I opened the window, jerked it inside quickly, and ran the window back up.  I opened the lid and both dogs went berserk as the aroma of the treats permeated the interior of the car.  Then started the fussing and grumbling, as they struggled for position on the console again.  I could hardly wait to cram a treat into their yappy little mouths to shush them up, but the treats were like molten lava.  And they were just the right size for a couple of miniature schnauzers to choke on.  Suddenly my nose was stuck in the floor carpeting, the seatbelt was gouged into my tummy, and I chomped down hoping to shatter the lava into bite-sized pieces.  I prayed the tellers in their ???window to the world??? thought I had simply dropped something, and also that I hadn??™t broken a tooth!

I smiled and waved to the tellers as we drove out, and continued to give each little monster tiny bites.  I had one more chunk of lava in my hand, which I tossed out as I rounded the corner where the treat-giving tellers couldn??™t see me.

By the time we got home my nerves were shot.  I hung up my jacket, checked the answering machine, and then noticed both little monsters already sound asleep smack dab in the middle of the king size bed.  Ah ??“ they looked just like two precious little angels ??¦

About Me:

I was born and raised in the small town
of Augusta,Kansas that is only a few miles
outside of Wichita. I married a native
Texan in 1977 and was soon transplanted to
Dallas. A large city offers many
things, but I miss the slower pace of small
town America. I have two stepchildren and
three grandchildren. Pets have always
played a huge part in my life, and I can't
imagine a home without them. In fact, they
were my inspiration to begin writing. In
the past year I've had stories or poems
featured by Starfish, Storytime
Tapestry, Driftwood, Inspired Buffalo,
Women With Heart, and Petwarmers. Just
recently, I was more than honored, when
Starfish added me to their Wall of Fame as
a Featured Writer! I've always felt one mission

in my life was to give loving homes to the dear
creatures God has provided for us. They
are always at our side with their
unconditional love.

Moonlight

Gorden K Warner

There is magic in the moonlight as it shines all through the night

sometimes it's full and round and beautiful as it shines so very bright.

Other times it seems that it is playing cause it doesn't seem quite right

as it slides across the night sky only showing a sliver of light.

but regardless of the time or season, it is always shining there

a sliver, full or half moon, it has magic it can share.

After all, how would life be without that moonlight stroll

or the chance to hold your lover and feel like you're in control.

What would happen to the night things that you heard  and want to say

if there wasn't any moonlight to guide you along your way.

Pay attention to the moonlight and be glad that it's still there

for without it life would be different and there would be little you could share.

No kisses in the moonlight nor strolls along the beach

there would be so many things that would be beyond our reach.

Keep the magic in your spirit, keep the magic in your soul

keep the magic in the night sky and let the moonlight take control.

HIS AGONY

Gorden K Warner

We often have our memories of how things were in our past

all to often, we have to change them to ensure that they will last.

never really understood why she said she couldn't stay

and the broken heart she left behind just simply melted away.

She took away the happiness the love and all the pride

sometimes he wishes soulfully that he had never tried

Gone forever was her loveliness, all the good times they had shared

replaced by bitter lonliness for which he was ill prepared.

All those years they spent together so quickly melted away

replaced by such unhappiness there seemed little he could say.

The music was not but noise to him and he'd swiftly turn away

but the clock just kept reminding him, he must face another day.

No joy in any bottle, nothing seemed to make much sense

his anger left a hollow feeling that really was intense.

When life was not but torture and he knew he couldn't win

twas not but prayer that helped him to start all over again.

Surely God could see his anguish, surely help was on the way

to heal the wounds inside of him so he could face another day.

That's what kept him going, that's all there seemed to be

if God would only hear him and put an end to the misery.

Only then could he face tomorrow, only then would his life change

somehow he must find the Spirit so his life could be rearranged.

God's Help

Gorden K Warner

Like a bird that takes wing or a song that you sing, God's beauty is there to behold

and the changes take place with such beauty and grace that you're speechless as His Miracles unfold.

You just can't help but believe as you try to perceive the extent of the goodness He shows

but you cannot deny that on Him you'll rely as you notice how much your faith grows.

God teaches us all whether we're big or so small and the lessons we learn will abound

If we learn truth and right, He will show us His might and with Love our lives He'll surround.

Place more credence and care on the love that we share and remember life's to short to refuse

for if we do as we're told and never withhold there's no reason that we'll sing the blues

God's wisdom is endless and His patience is too and there's no reason that we can't succeed

if we trust in Him when our future looks dim, He'll show mercy in our hour of need.

They almost broke the door down when I was at Mom's house.
Thank you for your loving support.

He give me some samples to take one pill is a day and some nasal spray to dry the fluid

up.  He also told me that if this didn't work he referred me to Dr. Brown to have to tubes
