Just to make you laugh

D.E. Shively

Being the conservative multi-mix American mutt little house-wifey poo who likes to write novels and essays and absolutely abhorrent poetry, naturally I am ready to settle down tonight to watch "Idol."  I mean, after all, my brain is not expected to be able to handle more than that so, I co-operate.

Tonight the "idols" are to sing songs written in the year they were born.  All I can say is, there really is a God because, were I a contestant, the world would have to listen to "Too Old to Cut the Mustard" by Rosemary Clooney and I don't think it would go over well although.......................Simon would give me a thumbs up on appropriate song choice!  Yeah, and, since I'm a blonde, because "I'm worth it," my hair would look all purple like Anthony's and I really don't have the biceps to pull it off......

Oh, well.  I guess I'll just watch it and wait for "House" to come on.  I have a secret crush on House, you know.   He's old enough, walks with a cane, so I can keep up with him.   Ho boy!

About Me:

Hello, my name is Debra Welch.  I'm 52 and the very proud mother of a soon-to-be 13 year old son named Christopher.

Christopher is adopted, so I have some writings on the subject, and he was born with a moderately severe unilateral clefting of the lip, gums and hard and soft palates.  He is beautiful!  Chris also has learning differences: ADD, Dysgraphia, and Executive Function and Working Memory Deficit.  He is the joy of our lives.

I have been writing since age nine.  My father came to visit and plopped down a pad of paper and a pencil.  "Write me a poem," he said "and call it 'Poetry Problems.'"  This is when I learned that my father and great grandfather both wrote poetry.  I was being tested.

I have just finished co-authoring a novel with my cousin titled "Jesus Gandhi Jetta Mae Adams," a murder mystery set in Columbus, Ohio and am starting my second novel.
