A Very Special

********************************************************
It was a cool, crisp Autumn night.
A couple knelt facing each other. Foreheads touching, they prayed, hands
clasped between them. They often prayed this way, leaning into each other
for support, each depending upon the other for
balance:
"Please, Dear God, could you send
us our child? We??™ve waited a long time and want to hold our little one in
our arms!"
High in the heavens, a shimmering
vortex of love and light began to move as God turned His head toward the
sound of their voices. A glowing moonbeam streaked its way toward the
still praying couple, surrounding them in soft, incandescent light. "Yes,"
He said to Himself, "I see that they have been waiting for a long time.
Their love is strong and good. I will make for them a very special
child!"
God summoned his angels. He loved
them dearly because they were sweet and gentle. He wanted to speak to the
Cherubs in particular and so drew them to Him carefully. The love-filled
light of God beamed upon the angels as He asked "My Cherubs! Will you give
some of your sweetness and gentleness to help me make this special
child?"
The angels cried with joy. "Yes,
Lord!" they exclaimed, clapping their hands and dancing. "We will gladly
give some of our sweetness and gentleness to help make this special
child!" God was pleased and asked that they stay for a while so He could
watch them play and dance.
God then summoned His birds. Birds
were one of His favorite creations. He loved their soft feathers, their
sometimes bright, sometimes muted colors. He loved the ones that talked
and the ones that sang. Mostly, He just loved them. Today He wanted to
speak to the nightingales. The nightingale??™s song helped to make the
evening hours sweet with music.
Love-light surrounded the
nightingales and they began to sing in a great chorus, filling the heavens
with beautiful, liquid notes. "My songsters!" God cried, His light
swelling and twirling with pleasure, "Will you give some of your sweet
music to help me make this special child?"
The birds flew and encircled God??™s
head, warbling with happiness. "Yes!" they trilled, spinning and flying
happily. "We will gladly give some of our sweet music to help make this
special child!" God was pleased and asked that the birds stay and sing for
Him a while.
God then summoned His
dolphins.
God loved His dolphins very much!
He liked the way they were always so happy to see Him, jumping from the
water, sometimes making complete flips and landing with a big splash. The
water would spray into the air, sparkling like thousands of diamonds. They
raised up now, chattering and clicking with happy abandon, greeting God
with their wide, curving smiles.
"My joyful ones!" God laughed, His
light pulsing with happiness at seeing these cavorting creatures of the
deep. "Will you give some of your laughter to help me make this special
child?"
The dolphins frolicked and leapt,
chasing rainbows in the ocean spray. "Yes!" they replied, lifting their
heads above the foam, nodding and smiling. We will gladly give some of our
laughter to help make this special child!" God was very pleased, but not
the least bit surprised. He asked that they stay with Him for a while so
that He could enjoy their playfulness and
laughter.
God then went to visit a young
woman, slumbering in her bed. She was not sleeping well because she was
frightened. She was going to have a baby and could not provide a good home
with enough food and clothing. She knew that she would have to give the
baby to new parents, and it was a very hard thing to
do.
His light, filled with love and
glowing softly, surrounded the sad, restless girl. God felt a swelling of
compassion. "Sweet daughter," He said, "you are troubled and frightened,
but I will be with you. You are loving and courageous, and so I ask, will
you give some of your love and courage to help this special
child?"
The young woman moved in her
sleep. "Yes!" she whispered, a single tear glistening on her cheek. "I
will gladly give all of my
love and courage to this special child!" God smiled upon the girl. He knew
that she would give all she could to this baby. He knew that she loved
this very special child and His great heart was moved. Once again,
love-filled light glowed, surrounding her, and she
quieted.
Many months passed and the young
girl went to the hospital. It was a very difficult time for her. She was
frightened, but God was with her, His love filling her heart and giving
her strength. The next day she left and God walked beside
her.
The couple came to the hospital
and the very special child was placed in their waiting arms. "Thank you,
God!" they exclaimed, overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. "At last our
prayers are answered!"
The new parents finally had their
very special child, a child full of goodness, sweet music joyful laughter
and unfailing courage. A child made from God??™s love-light and born of a
brave, young girl. A child now sleeping within the arms of a couple whose
love was strong and good.
And do you know who that special
child was?
It was
you!
