TAPESTRY The Newsletter
devoted to spreading love and cultural awareness throughout the
world
Now on to
the good stuff.......... Animal awareness
series endorsed by Wild Animals As
Pets. Donna Stebbins I heard a
story recently on the news about a couple who had a chimpanzee for a pet for a
long time. The husband was severely hurt by some Chimpanzees in
an Animal Sanctuary. The couple made the chimp they named Moe a
member of their family. The woman was unable to have children so
the Moe became like their child. They had Moe living with them
for about thirty years. The husband found Moe as an infant
in The thing is that as Chimpanzees get older
they can change in demeanor. That is what happened to Moe. He got in
trouble in his hometown by biting a police officer and then a woman. The
county ended up removing Moe from the couples custody and he eventually ended up
in the Animal Sanctuary near the couple after three years of court
battles. What a blow for the couple and for Moe. The
couple tried to make the best of it by visiting Moe when they could and
this was good for Moe as well. The couple visited Moe on his birthday and brought
him treats and presents to celebrate. Apparently some Chimps in another
cage escaped from their cages, didn't like Moe getting this kind of
attention and attacked the couple. The woman was attacked briefly and
lost her finger. The husband was severely hurt by two large male
Chimps and is still in the hospital. The article located at ABC.com gives
all the specifics of what happened from that point on. To access the
article: http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/Science/story?id=691497&page=1 At the time, nearly forty years ago, when the
husband adopted and brought home the Chimp there were few
laws regarding wild animals as pets. Now the laws are much more
strict on the subject. The reason I am writing about this is to bring
attention to this issue. I think we can become just as attached to wild
animals as domestic animals but wild animals are much more
unpredictable. Moe was not the one who hurt his "parents" but
because he hurt other people he ended up losing the only home he had
ever known. The couple who adopted him suffered a severe loss as
well. The attachment went very deep between them and to this day Moe
does not understand what happened and is depressed in the Animal
Sanctuary. The wife is having a hard time dealing with her husbands
devastating injuries and the whole situation is sad. In my opinion keeping
a wild animal as a pet is something to be carefully considered.
Caution is prudent before deciding on adopting and bringing a wild animal into
your home. What do think? I will be posting this on my
web blog at http://hibbsandheekspetcenter.blogspot.com if you would like to log on a comment
on this issue. Written by Donna Stebbins

THAR SHE
BLOWS By, Kathleene S.
Baker It must be true. Things really do happen for a reason and
usually for the best. This past
Thanksgiving my husband, Jerry, and I were spending alone. We weren??™t really feeling sorry for
ourselves, but it was definitely going to be different. This year the grown kids had plans of
their own, so just the two of us would share the holiday. We made reservations at an upscale hotel
well known for its holiday buffets, complete with ice sculptures for d?©cor. We were going to treat ourselves, and
I??™d have the holiday off and out of the kitchen. At least the cook was going to be
pampered??¦??¦??¦??¦ As I was turning off lights the
night before, I noticed a damp spot on the carpet. I said out loud, ???Oh, no! This pup hasn??™t had an accident in
months, so why now???? I grabbed
towels and cleaning supplies and went to work. Then I noticed there was absolutely no
color as I dabbed at the area.
Sticking my nose nearly into the piling, I was amazed there was no odor
either. Then it hit me and I screamed, ???Thar
she blows!??? This being the second
time the hot water tank had gone out, I knew why that particular area of carpet
was wet. At least it was noticed
immediately. The other time our
carpet had already soaked up 50 gallons of water, and we had out of town guests
staying with us for a wedding.
Nightmare weekend, as I recall!
We
corralled dogs, yanked up that area of carpet, began turning knobs on the tank,
and hooking up a garden hose to drain the tank onto the driveway. It was getting close to During all
of this I could only be thankful we had no guests for the holiday! Then I began to panic about showers
Thanksgiving morning. Soon, Jerry
hollered at me, ???Grab some soap and wash cloths and get out here.??? By now it was As we finally fell into bed, I tried
to convince myself I could handle washing my hair in cold water the next
morning. Then it hit us ??“ what if
no plumbers were available on the holiday.
Oh no ??“ how many spit bathes could a person endure? Or, what if every plumber in town had
gone away for the holiday? We
decided we would just pull up our bootstraps and survive like the pioneers
did. Yes, we could survive! We had no other
choice. However, the next morning I learned
washing your hair in cold water is agony!
It??™s much like eating ice cream too fast, except it isn??™t just your
sinuses aching; the pain permeates your entire brain. I had an electric hotpot of warm water
next to the kitchen sink, and when the pain became unbearable, I??™d pour on a bit
of warm just to take the edge off.
I washed and rinsed as fast as I could go, but it seemed to take
forever. I was sure I??™d be
hypothermic before I finished. We finally made it to the lovely
buffet, and looked pretty much like everyone else, and I didn??™t notice anyone shy away from us
as if we had body odor. Considering
the past 12 hours of our lives had been wretched, things were going very well,
and I was ready for a glass of wine before attacking the beautiful feast spread
across the dining room. We sat back, made a toast, and began
sipping as we spoke of all the things we had to be thankful for this year. About halfway through that glass of
wine, the ???spirits??? seemed to grab hold of me. Suddenly I was telling Jerry how
thankful I was for no out of town guests this year, the puppy didn??™t have an
accident, garden hoses, kitchen sinks, electric hotpots, shampoo??¦??¦??¦Jerry
interrupted, rolled his eyes, and said, ???You have a lot in common with that hot
water tank, you know!??? ???What in the world are you talking
about? I??™m enjoying myself, and
relaxing for the first time since disaster struck last night.???
With a devilish look in his eye, he
said, ???Well, you know how you are after a few sips of
wine???? ???I??™m fine after a few sips of wine,???
I insisted. I was so confused. ???Just how can you compare me to a hot
water tank????
???Well, as you were going on and on
about the things you were thankful for, I was tempted to stand up right here in
this crowded dining room and announce, ???Thar She Blows!???

Kathleene S. Baker About Me: in
my life
was
to give loving homes to the dear By: Joseph J.
Mazzella When each of us is
born in this world we are given a very special gift from God. This gift is more
beautiful and priceless than you can imagine. It has the power to transform your
life and the world around you. It has the strength to face any problems that may
come your way and overcome them. It has the energy and ability to make you the
person you always dreamed you could be. It has the miracles and magic to fill
your body with health, your mind with peace, your heart with love, and your soul
with joy. What is this glorious gift from God? It is simply the power of
choice. One of the
greatest days of my life was the day when I realized that with my every choice I
could choose love, joy, and oneness with God, and then share them with the
world. It was then that I saw the infinite possibilities for peace, happiness,
delight, growth, and learning that existed in this life. It was then that I saw
too how I could be a powerful force for good in this
world. Don??™t ignore your
own power of choice then. Use it, cherish it, and allow it to help you be a
powerful force for love, joy, and God in this life. Use it to smile at your
neighbors, hug your children, and tell your family just how much you love them.
Use it to watch the sunrise, plant some flowers, and thank God for your life.
Use it to give to a charity, help a friend in need, or donate a pint of blood.
Use it to sing joyously, dance delightedly, and laugh happily everyday.
Use it to share the wisdom of your mind, the goodness of your heart, and the
strength of your soul with all who need them. Use it to make yourself a better
person, your neighborhood a better community, and the world a better place. Use
it to share your talents with the world, your love with everyone everywhere, and
your joy with the entire universe. Use it to grow in oneness with life, in
oneness with others, and in oneness with God for all
eternity. Joseph
J. Mazzella ~**~**~ WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR
LIFE By: Joseph J.
Mazzella I have been blessed
the last several days to awaken right as the sun was coming up over the
mountains here. I have rushed outside with each new dawn to walk my dogs and to
take in its wonderful beauty. It has been so glorious taking the time every
morning to watch the night sky slowly turn blue; to gaze upon the morning star
and smiling moon shining brightly; to see the clouds glow red, pink, and yellow;
and to watch the golden sun rise majestically into the sky. Each sunrise
has filled my heart and soul full of joy, love, and delight. Each morning has
made me thank God once again for this glorious gift of life. Each daybreak has
reminded me of just how much I am loved and watched over by God. Each dawn has
given me a new desire not just to take joy from this gift of life, but to bring
joy to it as well. Leo Buscaglia once
said that, "Life is God??™s gift to you and what you do with it is your gift to
God." I hope to make my own gift to God a fantastic one. That is why I have
stopped asking what life can do for me and started asking what I can do for
life. God has already
given me all the love and joy I will ever need. Now all I want to do is to
choose that love and joy and share it with everyone everywhere. Now all I want
to do is show the rest of this world that they can do the same. Now all I want
to do is let others know just how much God loves them and just how glorious,
joyous, wonderful, and full of love life can
be. Life gives us all
so much. God gives us all so much. It is time we all give something back.
Ask yourself what you can do for life. Ask yourself what you can give to others
and the world. It can be as simple as a smiling face, a friendly attitude,
and a gentle word. It can be as easy as sharing a sunrise, offering a helping
hand, or doing a kind thing. Whatever you give will make life better and you
happier. Whatever you give will bring joy to others and delight to
God. Joseph

For all of you who don't know James Morrison is my stepson, about two months ago James's Aunt Cindy Morrison had a massive stroke. Doctors said she wouldn't make it through the night, and if she did she would have brain damage.
They put a feeding tube in her and made her comfortable to lay and wait for the end, I ask you all for prayers for her, and you all prayed, Our pastor Jeff went to the hospital and prayed also.
Well she made it through the night, and soon got the feeding tube out! Thats right out! xo Dear Prayer Warriors I went to visit my friends Pat and Leonard today. Leonard went to high school with my brother... He is on dialysis for kidney failure! He is on the list for a kidney transplant, but has to go to dialysis 3 times a week for 3 hours each day in the interim! He had a treatment while I visited with his wife, Pat. He was very weak and had some very painful cramping in his body following the treatment.
Please pray that he will get a kidney soon and that our Lord will sustain him till one becomes available. Leonard is past 70 years old, (my brother and I were 18 years apart in age). I lost my brother this way in 2000. I thank you all so much for your prayers they mean much to me!
