Authorities could learn today what charges, if any, will be filed
against city of Jourdanton employees accused of drowning stray dogs last
month in the city's sewer plant. The Jourdanton Police Department will
hand the results of its investigation to District Attorney Rene Pe?ħa
this morning, according to Police Cpl. Eric Kaiser. The corporal, who
led the investigation into the drownings, said Pe?ħa will then decide if
animal cruelty laws were violated and what charges are...

It's hard to understand how anyone could think it's a good idea to put
ailing dogs out of their misery by drowning them at the sewer plant. How
mean. How cold-hearted and cruel. And how odd that Jourdanton's city
manager would figure that anti-cruelty animal training would be a decent
enough way to deal with the goof who came up with the idea. As if a
class on sensitivity toward the animal kingdom would be enough to
enlighten the aforementioned goof. What appears...

The state allows two methods for euthanizing stray dogs. One is by
gassing, the other by injection with sodium pentobarbital at an animal
shelter. Ghoulishly creative, a Jourdanton official came up with a
third: He ordered city employees to drown strays at the sewer plant. He
called it a cost-saving measure; it also cut down on compassion and
common sense. City workers told the Express-News the official was
Chantan Morin, a public works supervisor.''The individual...

What a wonderful place Jourdanton must a be a wonderful place to live. It
drowns dogs and lets the kids watch. What's next -- burning them alive?
Seems no one is excited about the incident, and I get the distinct
impression that the only reason anything is being done about it is the
fact that the Express-News wrote the story (''Jourdanton staff drowns
stray dogs,'' Saturday). The people who ordered it, condoned it and did
it should be arrested. The city...

JOURDANTON -- Disenchanted residents weren't able to speak out Tuesday
against the intentional drowning of stray dogs at the city's sewer plant
but will have the opportunity to be heard at a specially called City
Council meeting as early as next week.''It is not posted on our agenda,
therefore discussion on this cannot be limited to this specific issue,''
Mayor Tammy Clark told a crowd of more than 30 people who had packed the
small City Hall room. Clark...

JOURDANTON -- This city's police chief on Monday promised an exhaustive
investigation into the drownings of stray dogs at the sewer plant,
including a review of the town's past methods to euthanize animals,
which he alluded to as questionable. But Police Chief Ronnie Lawson
stopped short of saying the city had drowned dogs in the past. He said
all the details will be made available when the investigation is
concluded.''This investigation is going to show the...
