Charmers

Bill Walker

wildbill6807@yahoo.com

I was watching my newest dog yesterday, Little Girl working her tricks. She doesn't do normal tricks like some dogs will pull.?  She does tricks like most girls do, that is pull a thing called charm.

I remember the day I got her, and drove home with her. She was not sure of things.?  She had as the story goes been found on the street. And put in a home? waiting to see if any one claimed her, none did so after a few days she was put up for someone to give her a real home. Now sometimes I believe this story, sometimes I don't. It is said the person that delivered her to this stop over home, did know a few things? that made one wonder if they were not the? one she belong to. This does happen in some dogs lives,?  the people no longer want them for some reason. The thing is they do try to find a place for them other then put them out on a road somewhere, and drive off leaving them, like poor Westmoreland dog. That poor dog waited side of the road for about three years, waiting for it's people.? Waiting and hoping to? the day? it died, it could not believe it? had been pitched. I now believe the people that ditched it may have lived in one of the bigger cities with in 50 miles of that place. People that would do that is heartless, I wonder if they wouldn't maybe in a bad day do that to their own children. I drove off and left Tink one time. He pulled his game, I am not ready to go. I came back and he was ready. Gave me his GRRRR ,and dirty look. Like I said, every dog has tricks. Tink liked trying to make out like a tough guy.?

I remember Chinker. Poor Chinker, he was a tough little boy. He grew old? and became sick with something. Was at home just like on last legs.?  Now in his life, the vets was animal doctors. That is care for animals, large and small. The money was in the large, small was a side line. Dogs is in the small group.?  You take a sick dog or cat in. The vet asked a few questions, and give you a little package of pills, might work, might not. The?  charge would be maybe 3 to 5 dollars. Pills might? work, might not. Anyways this one vet seemed to have a bit more feelings for little people. He said sure funny, "Chinker is so bad, but when he comes walking in, seems to perk up, sure puts our Cocker under the table fast."

Now I have one other Chinker story. Now I had got back to the states, from Korea. Was due to be discharged at a base out near San Fran Town.?  Now the folks had never been out that way. I know the thinking.?  Dad may have figured this was a good chance to see that part of the world. And Bill is getting a large chunk of money, part of it is travel money. We can travel out and get him. This was just fine with me, as I figured we would just take a round about way to get home anyways. But I figured it would be a family vacation. Chinker was family, and he would make the trip. No he was left with the vets, room and board. Poor guy.

We got home, and went to get him. Guess what? He was Peke, and a tough guy.?  Folks may have not got out of town, He showed them he was Chinker, where's that damn Cocker? Somehow or other he got out of that jail cell, never to get back in it. He had the run of the place,? none was going to mess with him.?  Move over Cocker, I will show you who is boss. That was Chinker.

Now I believe there is difference in the way boy and girl dogs work a person. I had kind of forgot how a girl dog works it, as the last four of my Pekes were boys. Dogs are no different then humans when it comes to tricks of the trade. Boys always try to act a little on the tough side,?  boy dogs do the same.?  Girl dog? always work the charm stuff,?  like girls do.?  Either way they work their way, that is girl or boy dogs.

I have noticed Little Girl working the charm stuff, just like a girl flirting.?  She sizes up someone, and goes to work. She will after making up her mind if this person likes dogs, kind of walk over and get closer. First keep the head kind of low, look up out of the? wide eyes, girl? thing. If the person says something to her, the eyes lids? goes to batting real fast, girl thing.

This I have watched her do.? She? after getting the ears scratched, will lay down and roll on her back, rub my tummy if you don't mind.?  Oh that feels so good, a bit lower if you don't mind, to the right a bit.?  When they think about quiting, she will look at them and the eyelids really crank up. Worked once, why not again??  Then there is the treat deal. Now she knows there is people that seem to have doggie treats. That voice that comes from that box, sometimes a thing comes with papers, and sometimes never mind the papers, a doggie treat. The eyelids get a work out. She stands and looks at that strange box, the eyelids working over time. Then there is those people that for some reason seem to carry doggie treats.?  She has found one like that.?  Seems like they are aways at this one place where we go, and Bill talks to Tinker and Poo. Those people are so nice. Why I just run to get to see them, I get the whole treatment. Ears, tummy, and now the lady has treats.. Why I got the whole little bag of treats one time, hope she brings a bigger bag?  next Sunday. All it takes is a little charm, and I know how to do that, I am a girl you know.

M & M??™s

By Robyn Cavalera

While I was away in Oklahoma, I learned a very interesting lesson about M & M??™s. No??¦ not the kind you eat!! Rather, the kind you need to eat everyday! Spiritually they are the M & M??™s of the spirit so to say. Let me explain.

The first "M" is for Mindset. The first thing we have to do daily is set our minds up to a specific thing. Example: "Today I set my mind up that I will smile, and have a Blessed day." That is a mindset. The best Mindset though is to wake up and say "Good Morning Holy Spirit. Today it will be You and me. Guard my mouth and heart, eyes and ears, to hear and speak only Your will and Word. Then, let??™s see who we can share You with."

The next "M" is Mouth. Hummm??¦ none of us have trouble in that area huh? Boy, wish I could say that for a truth in my life, but I cannot (not completely yet anyway). So next is to set the mouth up and guard it to speak only the truth and will of God and His Word. The old saying used to be "open mouth, insert foot?" Well, let??™s change that to "open mouth, release Holy Spirit!"

The last "M" is the toughest I think. Motive!! What is the True "motive" of your heart in all you say and think!! Do you tell a person to have a "Blessed day" then, as you walk away, wish they would talk less or stop gripping? Ouch!!! Truth hurts huh? Hey I know it does, because it just slapped me in the face!!

So here are the Spiritual M & M??™s in a nutshell??¦.

Everyday, set your mind to do the will of God. Then pray for Holy Spirit to guard your tongue and mouth to only speak life, hope, peace, love, and truth. Take the time to "think" about "why" you want to do God??™s will, and check your heart for the "motives" you have each and every day, towards others, and circumstances in your life.

I think if I can do this, and maybe you also, we will find our "bellies full" of the "goodness" and "Mercy" of God everyday. Not to mention the "Living water" that will flow from those full bellies to others!!!!!

Sharon Bryant

"Do we have any parents who are willing to give a hand with this fund raiser?" the voice asked.

I looked at hubby, he grinned, and I raised my hand.?  Several others? followed after me? and soon we had enough people willing to put on a talent show for our children's pre-school class.

On the ride home, hubby said, "Well, what are you going to do?"?  "Me??  I asked.?  What do you mean, ME, it's WE."?  "Oh no, you're not dragging me into getting on a stage in front of an audience." he said.?  "It's for the kids, it's for the classroom.......come on."?  I said.

"What are we going to do?" he asked.?  "We'll sing!" I said.?  "Sing??  I can't sing and neither can you!" he replied.?  "Well, we're going to try," I said, "It's for the kids."

The talent show was taking place outside on the back lawn of the school.?  We were having a nice size stage set up, background music, and the funeral parlor offered to loan us chairs if the school didn't have enough and the crowd was good sized.?  We had one month to get ready.

I decided I'd really get ready for this show.?  As a little girl, I always dreamed that one day I'd get on a big stage and sing to my hearts content.? ?  I decided to choose a Country Western song, "Crazy" by Patsy Cline.?  I even went shopping for the event and got the cutest western outfit I could find.?

Hubby wanted to really do something different so we decided we'd not tell anyone and he would enter the audience area on a horse and make a grand entrance and carry me off the stage.?  We even practiced at home with me standing on a tall wooden box how he was going to sweep me off my feet as I ended my song and take me away into the wild blue yonder.

Our day finally arrived.?  We who were in the show arrived early helping with all the set up equipment.?  Everyone kept asking me what I was going to do and all I said was, "You'll see."

Folks began coming in car loads and the crowd got larger and larger.?  Much larger than I ever expected.?  My husband was borrowing the neighbor's horse and trailer and was going to park on the other side of the school so no one would see him.?  So when it was my time to get on stage, I couldn't see him.

There I stood.?  In my rhinestone outfit, matching hat and boots? and carrying a guitar.?  No one noticed it didn't have any strings on it.?  I remember the whistles that carried in the wind as I began my walk up on the stage.?  I had my? cassette with me, and the button was ready to be pushed when I was ready to start belting out my "Crazy" voice.

I waited until the applause died down, then I reached behind me and pushed that button.?  The music began, I grabbed the microphone, and the rest fell into place.?  I was Dolly, Loretta, Patsy, all rolled into one.?  I kept looking to the corner of the school as I was nearing the end of my song waiting for hubby to come carry me off into the wild blue yonder.

Suddenly I heard roaring laughter from the audience.?  I turned and saw nothing, then people started standing up applauding as I was in my last verse of the song.?  And then I saw him.?  There he was in his black country hat, black shirt and pants, black boots with silver spurs, holding the reins on that black and white animal.?  I almost died.?  I stood there with my mouth hanging open.? ? ?

People were bent over laughing and hubby slowly inched the animal up near the stage as I sang my last few words.?  He held out his arms, and I slowly slid into his arms, and took my place in front of him on the cow.

I refused to ever appear with him? at school? again!!!

Inside of Me

Saskia Nienna Steidel

I have a secret, and that is me.

It is the ME inside, that you cannot see.

I hide it, most of the time.

It is dark, it is soft, it is aggressive, it is cute.

I have a secret, and that is me.

You well never see the INSIDE,

unless I want to show you.

It is strange, it is clear, it is hard, it is me!

Heaven

Saskia Nienna Steidel

If I dream about you and reach to touch you ??“ and find your hand

THERE IS HEAVEN FOR ME.

If I smile and turn around to look for you ??“ and you??re eyes are dark

THERE IS HEAVEN FOR ME.

If I cry and feel your arm around me ??“ and my tears run into your hand

THERE IS HEAVEN FOR ME.

If you tell me the words I need to hear ??“ I loveyou

THERE IS HEAVEN FOR ME.

BING BING BING

Saskia Nienna Streidel

A softly sound.

A start to sing.

I will let my blood rush. I feel my heart pumping the love through my vanes. I am dying, or singing, or dreaming. Where is the border? I am singing. I hear my voice getting louder, stronger.

???I am here???, do I sing.

???I am here, so see me!???

The world turns around and smiles.

It is my life, my voice, my heart, my soul, my body, my blood, my tears.

I am here!

The chimes sing

BING BING BING

And I am in the world, smiling,

Like the world is in me.

A Dog's Love by Sharon Bryant:?  Sharon your story is beautiful.?  A dog is the other human being.?  The only difference is that they cannot talk the languages we speak and they are always in that skin coat of theirs with their four limbs on the ground.?  Apart from that they are highly intelligent.

"It Will All Work Out" is absolutely outstanding, Carol.?  Oh, that all of us could learn to do the same as you.?  Put it all behind us and trust that it will all work out.?  Most of us don't have the same problem with worrying you have had, but we all fail to not have faith in ourselves, others, or the God who cares for us.

Wonderful read.

Carol, this is such a special story.?  Debra Shiveley has come a long way from that childhood.?  But what a caring, nurturing child she was; she took on the head of a household in order to protect her siblings, those kids who were always treated so much better than she was, from being picked up and sent no telling where.?  How much I admire the child that she was.?  How happy I am that she is surrounded by love today.

Her family is torn apart with this.?
