In the Desert

? Sandra Lewis Pringle

This is what the Lord says:

"The people who survive the sword

will find favor in the desert;

I will come to give rest to Israel."

Jeremiah 31:2

? ? ? ?  The desert, as we know it, is a barren place, empty of vegetation, void.

Whenever one is walking in the desert of life, one feels as if everything is

has been stripped away, nothing left.

? ? ? ?  As a person drives along the highways of Louisiana and Mississippi today,

it looks as if a sword has come through, slashing once sturdy steel poles, which

supported heavy billboards in half?  . . . . . striking tall timbers in such a way as

to leave them looking like a pile of Pickup sticks, for those who can remember.

Houses and structures have been crumpled, looking as if someone has picked

up a piece of bread, to crumble and fall into a heap below.?

? ? ? ?  The sword has certainly passed through their country.

? ? ? ? ?  Those who have survived are finding themselves in the desert of life. . .

a thirsty place, without water, without shelter.

? ? ? ? ?  In the desert, God is our only Hope, our only Way of having peace about

the future.

? ? ? ? ? Souls have been emptied with tears, washed and cleansed, so that they may

be filled again.

? ? ? ? ?  In the desert, we find favor, God promises.?  It is the time of fertile ground to

be established, so that houses may be built on firm foundations, rather than on

sinking sands.

? ? ? ?  In the desert, Spirit speaks to spirit.? ?  Everything has to be removed, that is

not of God.

? ? ?  Whenever one goes to Spirit, one has to go empty.

? ? ? ?  In the desert, it's quiet.?  There are no chirping birds overhead.?  In this stillness,

we are able to hear clearly the audible voice of the Almighty God, and witness

His favor in our lives, as our footsteps are guided by His hand, as we are filled

with His manna, by His love.

? ? ? ? ?  We find rest in the desert, as His Spirit comes like a flood, to embrace us in

His compassion, bringing encouragement, hope.

? ? ? ? ?  To the world outside, it may seem as if we are poor, deficient of means, but

as one walks through the desert, we find that it is the richest season of all, the

most blessed, and the most precious . . .? ?  a time in which we have been set

apart by Almighty God, so that we may receive fully of Him.

? ? ? ? ?  May God fill all those today, who ae walking through the desert, in hopes of

a brighter future.? ?  It may not have been a hurricane which has brought you there,

but it is God and His power, His love, which will bring you through.?

? ? ? ? ? ? It is my hope that many lives will be filled with His provision, and strengths

renewed, realized even, that they were not aware of.

? ? ? ? ?  As one dwells in the desert of the Most High God, spirits must be quietened,

and hearts stilled, to hear His tender voice as He speaks.

? ? ? ?  Favor, indeed, is always in the desert, and not such a bad place to be.

My name is Sandra Lewis Pringle.?  Writing is, and always has been, a favorite pasttime of mine, since a child.? ?  I often would make up little stories to entertain my cousins, and friends, at times we had nothing else to do.

? ?  I wrote poetry at a young age, and then began to write more seriously, as the years passed.

? ?  I began an inspirational greetings site, online, in 1998.?  By that time, I had gathered several people who wished to read poetry, and with whom I had been sending out prayers, in answer to prayer requests.

? ?  The name of my poetry site is "Greetings from the Heart and Soul."

? ?  Later, I added my daily devotionals, "Morning Glorythoughts", and that readership has grown by leaps and bounds.? ?  Praise God.

PORTRAIT IN GREEN AND WHITE, WITH BLESSINGS

Gregory Hernandez

There are trees outside my window. It is one of the reasons I chose this apartment. It was on the second floor; not too high up from ground level (psychic residue from September 11th).The days are warm, air conditioning (one of the perks of the Parkview Apartments where I live) free free free-- and highly appreciated.Comes in handy.Cable, HBO (another perk and also free free free), not so much.I??™m alone, my roommate hasn??™t come back from his side job just yet. He??™s had three calls today so far.I don??™t really like my life to be disturbed so much.David Bowie looks down on me from a poster to my right. The poster, like my taking in a roommate, are ways that I??™ve used to shake myself out of my cage of complacency.I have a strong tendency towards being a hermit and living a spare unadorned life.In later days I can see myself being a shut-in.Or maybe not.I have as strong a tendency to shake myself out of a rut as I have in getting myself into one.I like making myself uncomfortable. The trees outside my window are never still, even in the stifling heat.I am alone, but not for long (a perk of the chance I took in coming down to this part of New Jersey from New York City to be close to a cousin I grew up with) this life has been bountiful.I say ???this life??™ because it seems that I??™ve lived so many lifetimes during my years that reincarnation is not necessary.Like Siddhartha, I have been reincarnated more than once without having to be born and reborn in different flesh.Like the protagonist of Hesse??™s novel, I have achieved and attained my rewards during my time on earth. It has been a glorious, heartbreaking, colorful, drab, poignant and pained existence; but for all that my regrets have been few and far between. And for all my failings and bad experiences I have always gained insight and a valuable lesson. And without my past, I would not have ended up here, leading THIS life, being around THESE people, and feeling (as I do), truly blessed. There are perks, and there are perks.

Here??™s a portrait, in the Parkview Apartments -- Spare white walls, bare white carpets, and Greg: typing; solitary, but not alone; thankful, blessed.

Smells Take Me Back To My Past

Saskia Nienna Steidel

Smells takes me back to my past, no matter if I wish it or not.

The smell of roses reminds me on my mum, like she is when she stands in the garden and wipes with her earth-crusted hands the sweat from her face. The garden is beautiful, the roses are wonderful ??“ just like my mum, who??s face is dirty of fresh earth.

The smell of citrons reminds me on my granny??s mum, at her self-made lemonade (the best lemonade, you could ever get), on her cleaning things, which she used to clean dirt of the ground I couldn??t even see.

The smell of cigarette smoke mixed with too much after-shave. The smell of my father, who does not seem to know the word ???enough??? and who believes that more is really always more. Just more attention for his family is something he does not know!

And then the smell of spices. The smell of my brother, who died when he was just 17 years old. My brother always smelled like spices ??“ worm! If I smell this I always think of Sebastian, then I think he stand right behind my back and smiles at me. That would look like him!

???It was just a joke, sissi!???

Smell is something magical. It brings pictures back. And it wakes my brother to a new life ??“ again and again.

Just Think ...

Joyce C. Lock

? ? ?  If you are a salesperson (not only because it is? your job but, you actually happen to be good at it), just think.?  How many sales did you make last year??  Last month??  Last week??  A lot??  Probably, you would have sold more in a better economy.?  Though still, you likely sold way more than you can readily remember.?  Was that 100 customers??  1,000??  100,000??  More?

? ? ?  Imagine if you were to use that same great charm to sell Jesus??  Wow, what an impact!!!?  Now, multiply that by a few years and that is really a lot of changed lives!!!

? ? ?  Ok, so maybe you are not a salesperson.?  How are you at advertising??  Isn't it fun to continually have more ideas of ways to reach just one more customer and often thousands!??  Just think how the world would view differently if you were to use all that creativity to say ... advertise God.

? ? ?  Can't you just see it, now, a neon light in every public restroom??  Oh, we could have so much fun!?  Soon, the idea would catch on and God's name would be on every pair of tennis shoes, on every bath robe.?  There is no place people couldn't go without being reminded of God and, wherever He's included, that is that much less room for Satan.

? ? ?  Is that too active for you??  Ok, let us say you are a writer, an artist, a musician.?  You have wares to share, so do it.?  If you haven't been discovered already, odds are that you are not going to win the Mr. or Miss
America pageant by keeping your gift hidden.?  Just think of the thousands and hundred thousands your gift could already be ministering to.?  And, when you give to God, He gives you more!?  Why not go for the world title!?

? ? ?  What is your gift??  I am about certain that you have at least one.?  So, your health isn't cooperating.?  That is pretty common, these days.?  In fact, Satan gets his jollies at the ways he convinces us that we can not serve.?  Are you not about tired of it, too?

? ? ?  You do have a telephone, don't you??  How about a computer??  And, there is, still, the old fashioned snail mail.?  Ask God to show you something you can do.?  That will teach the old fart a lesson!

? ? ?  If you use the gift God gives you, He will give you another one, too!?  Then, when you use both gifts for the Lord, He will double it again, and again!?  There is no longer any reason to whine about how others are more gifted than you.?  Get going!?  One gift is a good place to start; at just your speed.?  How do you think I ended up with so many different gifts!??  It really works!

? ? ?  And, do you know what else??  Now, this is really cool!?  If you make just one person smile, they will feel happier and will, in turn, make at least a couple more people smile.?  Then, you have two new people smiling who will, in turn, make two more people smile.?  You started with one smile, which was yours.?  And now, that seed has already multiplied seven times, when all you did was smile!

? ? ?  The same is true in sharing joys of the Lord.?  Each time you minister to someone, they will find opportunity to share it again.?  It's kind of like the Energizer bunny.?  It keeps going and going.?  Some seed multiplies a little, some up to a hundred fold.?  It could even be more!

? ? ?  Thank God that we don't have to count how much our seed gets multiplied.?  All we have to do is offer the seed and God will take it from there.

? ? ?  I, often, wonder if the person who led Billy Graham to the Lord had any idea what they had done.?  One seed multiplied more times than anyone but God can count.?  Have you ever thought to realize it could be your seed that will reach the next Billy Graham?

? ? ?  Just think of all the good we could accomplish were we to quit letting Satan tell us that we can't.?  Why, we could change the world ... if we would just think.

~ Changing the World ~

You can change the world
By the thoughtful things you do;
Making a difference,
Letting God's love shine through.

Reaching out to help others,
With compassion He gave you,
Multiplies His seed;
Making hearts brand new.

Prayer Requests and Updates

You may remember me asking for prayers for my sister's best friend, Carol.?  Some of you sent cards to her when she was in the hospital.

Tonight, I need one more prayer, if you would say one.

Carol has a very short time to live.?  The doctors cannot control the leukemia, it's very aggressive.? ?  The bone marrow did not take.?  The chemo is not working.?  The doctors told her to go home and get everything in order.

My sister is not taking this news very well.?  And when that day comes, I know nothing I will say to her will help her.

If you would just say a prayer that my sister, Joyce Brady, gets through this funeral that we know is coming.?  She is trying to be strong, but I heard the desperation in her voice last night.

It is so hard to say good bye.

Thank you,

Sharon

Please send this out to the group My daughter & her family --- who were living in CA?  - JUST moved to?  Houston.?  I can't get a hold of them.?  I spoke with them yesterday.?
Very difficult to get through the Lines now....

Kristin, Cameron, Carson, & Shawn (husband) Senf.
