Woman Of Earth Masimba Biriwasha
The sky cracks open, dropping shreds of light. The light dances in her palms, and spills to the Earth. She gazes at it as it seeps into the brownness of the soil, embracing herself. She knows she is a woman of the Earth. Beautiful, a delight, a joy. The seedling in her soul whispers to her like dawn sliding out of the misty darkness. Rise. You do not have to try harder, be better, or be anything you are not. Your beauty is in you, just as you in each moment. Woman. Celebrate.
She lingers upon the moment as a baby suckling its Mother's milk. Nourishing. Fresh. She hungers to remain clothed in the beauty of this delicate moment. The moment is singular. She loses herself in it. Until she is truly centred and in harmony with the universe.
The moon flutters in her eyes as it plays hide and seek with a patch of clouds in the sky. She falls to her knees; arms stretched out in a silent prayer to her God and her ancestors. A feeling of warmth settles in the pit of her stomach. Rising, she gathers the flame lilies into her bosom amid the flutter of butterfly wings. She pauses, examining the little happy clouds sailing in the sky. It's as if the earth is in
an eternal movement, she ponders.
She must pick the flame-lilies. For freedom's sake. The voices are muttering to her, here, there, to keep the fire in her soul burning. She reaches an anthill, climbs over it to the other side. There's another field of flame-lilies, glowing like fireflies under the moonlight.
She knows she must not fail, lest Grandmother will not reveal the secret to her. She begins picking up the flame-lilies. She works quickly but with grace, like she were nursing a newborn that must nurtured to reveal its own light. ? My name is Chief K.Masimba Biriwasha. I am very sure about that. I love writers, too. I love God. Still? finding him. The road has been bumpy but will get there. ? "The function of an artist is to reveal an inner divine realm. This essential divinity is tragically submerged in humanity. To ignore this divine impulse is to destoy one's potential
for achieving authentic selfhood and psychological maturity." ? ?
