Nicole Stevenson??™s Weekly Column

Fireside Chat ??“ Featuring ??“ Kristiano Ang

Oct 18, 2005

"Don't Let The Door That Closes On You Be the Last You Enter"-Nicole M. Stevenson

It is a pleasure to introduce my publisher of Vainquer Teens Kristiano Ang. Vainquer Teen magazine is geared for the youth. Covering topics? from Entertainment to Opinion? all the way from Singapore! Working hard at making Vainquer Teens a recognizable name. Opens up in a my first IM interview!

What made you want to pursue this endeavor?

KA:? ?  Well, I get inspired really by people and things. My heroes include Steven Paul Jobs, the CEO of Apple Computer. One day, I know I will make it as big as he does.

How long have you been Publisher of Vainquer Teens?

KA:Since August 2004 when it launched.

What is the over all message you want your magazine to send?

KA: Well Vainquer Teens is obviously unconventional in the fact that we donate 50% of our profits away and are highly unorthodoux in our practices. The message that we want to send, is that despite your age, difficulty, whatever, what you can believe, you can achieve

What is the cost for the magazine?

KA:Vainquer Teens goes on sale at around US$1.30. The online edition is available for free at www.vainquer.net but it comes out later from the print edition.

How many writers are working with Vainquer Teens?

KA: Vainquer Teens has over 50 writers based internationally. From places as abstract as Bangladesh to the United States

How many interviews do you conduct and what was your most memorable?

KA: I have done around 10 interviews. more or less. The two most memorable ones would have to be with American Idol 3 finalist Diana DeGarmo. She's a really lovely girl andit was an absolute pleasure . She might not be the most popular singer around but she puts on no airs despite her Idol status. Another of course, would be Canadian rock princess Avril Lavigne. This is obviously due to her status and the fact that I've always been a MASSIVE MASSIVE fan of her music. So interviewing her is like a dream come through for me as was the entire process... the journey is the reward.

What has been the most popular cover of Vainquer Teens?

KA: The Adam Brody December 2004 cover received a lot of feedback, mostly positive.

Have you gotten much support from your family?

KA: Well not really. They don't exactly support me, but it isn't exactly a barrier. I find the most stinging criticism I receive from people I meet off the net, who have read about me. Because of my age, and other intangible reasons, they don't think what I do is good enough.

Roughly how much money would you say has been put into Vainquer Teens existence?

KA: Around US$1000.

Most of the profit from the magazine goes where?

KA: 50% of Vainquer Teens profits will go to the UNICEF. I feel that is an obligation to return something to society

As Publisher do you feel that you can or print whatever you want or do you have guidelines?

KA: Even though the term "Publisher" implies a high and mighty status, my checks and balances are my audience and writers. I have to do, what pleases the readers and obviously, I respect journalistic integrity too

Is there anything personal you want to share with your readers being that your magazine targets the youth?

KA:Well...I got rejected over 30 times before I got my first interview...Well, the main reason I could try 30 times is because all my life people have said I couldn't make it. But there's nothing that makes me feel better than proving them wrong.

What is your motto?

KA: My motto? The people who are crazy enough to truly believe that they can change the world are the ones who do

What are your upcoming projectsor any news you want to share?

KA:Well my main aim is to take Vainquer Teens into print in Singapore this year and hopefully work out a partnership with a United States Publisher to see a Vainquer Teens North America... I'm working on a Harry Potter exclusive so I hope to attend the premiere in New York City this November.

What message do you want toleave with the readers you interact with?

KA: For my readers. well I don't interact much with them, but I get a few emails now and then and the greatest compliment that they have paid me is to say that we are "more intellectually discerning than the likes of Lime (Singapore teenage magazine) and Smash Hits". It's really satisfying to know that you're doing something useful for society
