My Story

Archie Hail

I will start with my story and see how far I get before my hand gets to tired to type. LOL.

Well, I guess I will start with how I met my wife. When I was still single, I was attending a small church in Arroyo Grande, Ca. which is in the Pismo Beach area if you know anything about our area. Our pastor left to take a bigger church and we were having try outs for a new pastor. The pastor from Sand's church was a candidate. My soon to be wife and I had voted to have him come to our church. He did come with his family. At the time, I sang in a quartet there and I would play the organ sometimes on the week nights.

Our new pastor kept telling me he had this girl he wanted me to meet from the church he had come from, well everything he planned fell through so I decided to write her a letter. She got home from school and there it was. She wrote back and said that the pastor and his family were coming to her high school graduation and invited me to come with them so we talked it over and everything was set up. When we got there and the second I saw her I knew I was going to marry her.

The pastor's family had asked Sandi and her girlfriend to come to their place for a couple of week vacation so they come back with us that day. Sandi and I went out every night either to church or I took her some place, well on the 6th night I ask her to go steady and she said no because she didn't want to be tied down so the next night we went out on a date and when we got back I ask her to marry me and she said yes. Well, 3 months later we were married and of course our friends and family said it would never last but God put us together so it had to last because he does good work.

Well, the first year I had a job it sales then we got into managing apartments and moved to Bakersfield, Ca. where we managed different apts for a big contractor there. We got involved in a church that was twice as big as what we come from. It was about 300 people. On our second Sunday there the pastor came up to me and said "quote" ???I have a problem, my organist? ?  and I need your help.???

Of course I was thinking to myself you still have a problem because I can't play the organ for a church this size because I have never had lessons. He told me that he had talked to the pastor from the church where we had come from. So I guess you might say I was caught so I did play it that morning and made it through. Then Sunday night came and he asked me again. Well this went on for about 3 weeks and I decided that he said that nobody else in the church played the organ so with God??™s help I started to do things on the organ that I had never tried because I never had organ lessons in my life. God helped me and I continued on for about 6 years plus my wife and I became the asst. youth directors which we both loved. While there we had our one and only daughter she is now 31.

Well, the time come that we had to get out of the apt. business and I was looking for a job and found one that required us to move to the Fresno, Ca. area. We started working for a mobile catering business that is the lunch trucks that go to construction sites and businesses. I started having trouble walking so I would drive the truck and Sandi would get out and service the people.

As time went on I was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and the owner of the company, which had grown to having 26 trucks by this time asked me to come inside to do the bookkeeping and Sandi took over the truck. After about a year I had to go on total disability and Sandi stayed with the truck. I was in a wheelchair by now and was about to give up when a strange thing happened. My wheelchair was stolen from in front of my place. I was still able to walk a little with a walker. I had to call the police out to make a report. The officer that come out took 2 hours looking for my chair but never found it.

This is where a BIG blessing came into my life. I used to work with the police before I was married and I made mention to him that I did and that I really missed it. I knew I could never go out on the ride along or anything because I was in a wheelchair. Well he proved me wrong `and the next week I was out with him on an 8 hour shift. I guess I ended up going out about 30 different times with them. This police officer was a Christian man and God sent him to me as my angel because he showed me that just because I was in a wheelchair I didn't have to give up everything. Well, he has been in my life now for going on 29 years and is my best friend and we have been through a lot together.

I have been confined to bed for about the past 6 years now but I am still going strong. I work for a local CBS TV station in our town doing their traffic reports, I am not on the air thank goodness. I start at go till then again from about until Mon. thru Fri. I listen to the scanners and anything I get I send to them via MSN right to the news desk and we get reporters and cameraman dispatched to the scenes. Needless to say with this job and my mailing list I stay very busy.

Sandi has retired from the catering business after 28 years. My daughter is a CNA and the health care company that takes care hired her and she is here 8 hours a day 5 days a week because I have to have somebody 24 hours a day with her here Sandi isn't totally tied down.

God has really been good to me. It seems everyone I work with or everyone who takes care of me including my doctor and my nurse that I have are Christian people. In fact my doctor even came to my house so I don't have to go to his office which is unheard of. In fact he and his family will be here this Friday evening for my 6 month exam then we will have dinner.

Well, I guess I have went on long enough in fact to long. I just enjoy telling people about my life and how GREAT GOD HAS BEEN TO ME. If I would have known about the MD back before I got married It may never have happened but God always knows what the future holds.
