STORYTIME TAPESTRY

Special Announcement

Operation We Care

Hello Everyone,

Saturday I received some information that I'm concerned with.  It was from a soldier.  I found out that the AT & T phone cards work best for the troops to call back to the states.  I also found out that a one hundred minute phone card only allows the troops  five to seven minutes of actual talk time.  That upsets me that these soldiers can't have more time to talk to their families with these phone cards.   I've talked to A T & T, and like most things, no one can do anything about it.

I wrote this soldier back and told him I'm trying to get a load of  phone cards out.  He replied and said, if there was any way I could do something else, the troops would be greatly appreciated.  He then told me a lot of soldiers have access to laptop computers, and when they are not in the field, they can use the computers to make contact back home.

He said what they really love the most was watching old movies on discs.  I asked what kind of movies and he said any kind, that it's all they have to do when they're at camp.

I have enough money to buy many of these old movies.  But I'd like to send to four camps I have addresses for.  I also know you can purchase these old movies for as low as a dollar each at dollar stores.  The camps I'm sending to have approximately 300 to 400 soldiers at each one.  If I send to a camp, I'd really like to have every soldier in that camp receive a movie.  I'm hopefully planning to help at least 1200 to 1600 troops this Holiday if I get enough movies and cards.

My deadline to send the boxes overseas is just three weeks away.  I'm still asking for letters or a card to a troop.  If anyone is interested in dropping a line to brighten a soldier's life, please get them here to me before the end of this month.  And if anyone wants to buy an old movie and put it in with a card, that would be wonderful.  I can ship a lot of movies over in one priority box.   Thank God, this year I have the flat rate boxes to ship to the troops.  Last year it cost over two thousand dollars in shipping to send supplies over, just for the Holiday shipment.  I can ship one priority box now for the flat rate of $7.70 each.   That is going to help me tremendously.

I need all the help I can get.  These soldiers never ask me for anything.  I just try and think of things that would be nice to get them.  I thought the phone cards would be nice, but for the money they cost and how little usage they have, I'm disappointed in purchasing those cards.

For anyone who has donated money to give me a hand, I will be buying movies with the money.  For anyone who wants to send a card, please note I am shipping the boxes out Dec. 1.  If you do send a card with a disc inside, please write on the front of the envelope  "DISC", so I can keep track of how many movies will be going in one boxI do not open the envelopes that folks send for the troops. If anyone wants to send more than one card, you don't need to put a stamp on each one.  You can send them to me in an envelope or a small box if you have several.  They will all go out in one box on my end.

I have area schools making cards for the troops again this year.  The troops who wrote me last year told me how much this meant to them.

Anyone who cares to give a hand to our troops, please send cards to:

Just saying Merry Christmas to a soldier would brighten their lives while they are serving and are so far from home.

God Bless Our Troops
