Ride em Cowboy

Sharon Bryant

I believe we were in Texas, traveling across country.?  Signs kept popping up along the highway for this country/western place, saying something about eating a big steak and if you could eat all of it, it was free.

More signs along the road showed a mechanical bull.?  I'd heard of them, saw one on television once, but never....never did I think that I'd.......well I'm sure you know what happened.

We stopped, after deciding to have lunch at this place.?  Besides I wanted to see the bull.

The place was busy and just about every seat in the house was taken.?  But we found a little table and I had a good view of the "bull."?  It was huge with a beautiful saddle on it.?

Now I'm not what you would call any expert horse rider, but I've had my share of riding bareback, saddle, side saddle.?  I always managed to stay on the horse.?  So hubby says, "Why don't you try the bull?"?  I looked at him and replied, "Why don't YOU try and ride it."?

"Well you're the one who always rode horses when you were younger, not me, I'd never be able to sit on the thing."

That's how I ended up walking up to the bull that day with a few hundred eyeballs watching me.

I climbed up on the saddle.?  I put my feet into the stirrups.?  I grabbed the horn.?  The man operating the bull had told me when I was ready to signal him.?  I felt I was ready so with my left hand, I gave him the "OK" signal.

The bull took off and I was doing great.?  I wasn't even sliding off the saddle.?  Suddenly the bull began "bucking" faster.?  I was still holding on, with one hand in the air.?  WOO HOO.......not bad for someone in their almost 50's.

I held my hand up again, letting the man know I was doing just fine.

The last thing I saw before I took my famous flying lesson was all the grins and clapping from the folks in the place.?  Hubby was grinning yelling, "That's my girl!"?  I don't even remember now if I flew off head first or if I hiked off from the back of the bull.?  I only know when our bodies go airborne, it's a real trip.?

I landed on what I'd call a big pillow or mattress, but it wasn't soft and comfy.?  At least it kept me from smashing my head into the floor.?  The operator ran over to me and was helping me up asking if I was ok.?  I informed him I was fine.?  I lied.

I wish I could have talked to the operator the next day when every muscle in my body screamed "OUCH."

I wish he could have seen the black and blue marks I had on my old body.

Nowadays when I want to take a "ride" on an animal, I smile and hop on a merry-go-round.

Hair of Women

Joyce C. Lock

? ? ? ?  At this writing, my hair is close to a hand's breath above my waist. It has been some variation of long mostly since being a teen, out of preference.

? ? ? ?  Though, after having read an old book on the thoughts and beliefs that originated around a woman's hair, with much name calling toward the female gender, I did thorough research of scripture in reference to hair.

? ? ? ?  Having discovered sheep verses goats being symbolic of types of people, I traced to find a definition of their hair as being the offspring seed of each.

? ? ? ?  Paul referred to himself as a type of father.Without going into the various symbolic definitions of the term 'woman', even as we perceive it to mean today, some are mothers by having literal children.

? ? ? ?  But, even those without children, who teach children in Sunday School, take on a partial role of motherhood.

? ? ? ?  Though, greater yet is when we take upon a spiritual nurturing role to spiritual babes.?  The offspring of a woman's spiritual seed would bring much more glory than the appearance of her physical head.

? ?  ? ? On rare occasion, God allows me to see a small glimpse of His glory rising in people who've been blessed through my ministries. And, my heart glows to see such beauty, a bit of God blossoming in each one of them. However, only God can count the number of hairs ~ the number of times that seed has been multiplied.

? ? ? ?  These are conclusions God led me to, giving me much peace.

? ? ? ?  But, if literal hair is, in any way, a testimony for which we can minister to those who believe as tradition, let God be glorified.

On The Road Again

By Richard D. Sims

Well I have been keeping busy lately, my son Rick and I are hauling corn

from here in Pittsburg, Ks. to Springdale, Ark. and also to Westville, Ok.

I guess the song is true jamming gears is got to be a fever, seems Rick

and I both have come addicted to the grind.

Most usually we can be found? jetting down the freeway listening to the

injectors sing to us while pumping diesel to the big catapillar motors,

and the eighteen wheels are humming in harmony with the Eaton Fuller

ten speed transmissions, the C.B. radio's blasting away at us too!

Sometimes out there on the roadway late at night all you can see are

the tail lights of the other truck running down the ribbon of highway,

and it sure seems like we are the only ones on the road, sometimes

going for miles without meeting another vehicle.

Giving you all 3's and 8's and we'll catch you?  all on the flip flop,

this one is clear and gone and heading down that supper slab 10/4.

to learn.

two children of my own, Richard II ( Rick ) Sims 26 years old, and a daughter Rebecka

Sissom age 22. A stepson James Morrison 26 who lives with Jackie and I because of his

Robyn's song
Christina Hymes

I can hear a red robin sing,
through willows beyond the stream.
There lies his nest.

The sun's rays play through the fallen limbs.
Short vines sprout upward,
spiraling around the slender trunk
into the hole of her heart,
Suffocating it.

But still perched in high branches,
nearly touching the sky.
My robin sings songs that open
my heart again.

Sanctuary

Steve Johnston

A tear falls upon your skin,
I watch is it runs,
caressing your check,
taking shelter in your lips.

We lay together,
cool darkness surrounding.
I touch your skin,
soft, velvet love.

We embrace,
mercury, smooth and shimmering,
melding to our shape,
covering our skin.

Warm liquid, emotion
washes over me,
the taste of salt,
overpowering.

Tracing the curve of your back,
up along your neck,
finding sanctuary,
lost in a vision
of you.

Writers Feedback

This story by Janet Seever really touched me.?  I am thinking back on times I have seen people in fast food restaurants or shopping malls, friendly, but some were leery because of the way they dressed or maybe they are unkept.?  I have met many intelligent, interesting people on the city bus who could have been Janet's Chuck.?  You really can't judge a book by it's cover.?  Thanks and God bless, Sharlett

WOW! Janet Seever??™s Story: What a heartwarming tearjerker with a mixed ending.
Yes, we need to be thankful for anything good that befalls us
and always keep the needs of the less fortunate and afflicted
in our eyes and thoughts.
Mark Crider

Acrostic Poetry I have seen some of this type poetry but never knew what it was called.

Thanks.

I am sorry this is late but My best wishes go to Loren and Johnnie Moore on their anniversary My thoughts are with them at this precious time. God Bless Nathalie

Do You Wonder??  by Bill Walker :?  Thanks Bill for such a wonderful write up.?  Actually, we always wonder ???why me??™, but there will always be a ???why me??™ person for as long as seed time and harvest time continue on the surface of this planet earth.?  The only grace we have is ???Oh Lord Jehovah, please do not let it happen to me, protect me from such occurrence in Jesus??™ name ??“ Amen??™!?  Although, sometimes the faithfulness of one person could serve a nation from destruction and also the sin of one person could plunge a nation into destruction.?  God??™s view of humanity is different from ours.?  Only Him understands his ways of doing things or allowing terrible things to happen even to the faithful.?  Georgewaters Ojeigbe ??“ Lagos, Nigeria
