A warm Happy Birthday greeting goes out to our writers, Kathy Whirity and Maria Harden

All Hail, Dagwood Bumstead

Ron Gold

For more years than I want to count, I??™ve followed the adventures of Blondie and Dagwood, in daily newspapers, monthly comic books, radio shows, television series and movies.

The Bumsteads grew up with us.And we laughed, smiled, chuckled and said ???that also happened to me.???

While Dagwood still works for J.C. Dithers.Blondie recently became a caterer.Baby Dumplings grew to become Alexander.Cookie stayed Cookie though now she wears lipstick, a touch of eye makeup and Brittney Spears fashions. Both kids are in their third decade in high school. And their dog, Daisy still has the run of the house through her own dog door.

Meanwhile, on the same newspaper page, Popeye??™s Sweet Pea is still an infant in a nightgown..Time has cancelled Joe Palooka, Dick Tracy, Smilin??™ Jack and Terry and the Pirates. The Li??™l Abner Dogpatch people are memories.Superheroes mostly stay super-vibrant in their private media.Beetle Bailey??™s Army outfit remains Snafued.

Why this nearly pathological concern for a man who eats gargantuan sandwiches, naps whenever possible, wears a shirt with a single button and can??™t comb his cowlick?

I believe- it??™s immortality.Unlike cartoonists, cartoons don??™t die.And they rarely age. They live in archive perpetuity, which outlast their cartoonists??™ mortality.

Y??™know, being two dimensional is not such a bad life. And we humans have an eternal creator.? ?

You can??™t beat the real thing.

? ? ? ? ? ? ?  My Favorite Food *

? ? ? ? ? ? ?  Norma Liles

Take me back awhile my friend to days of long ago. A time when life was

simpler and the food was more wholesome and good. A time when my

Mother of Mothers baked the best food in the land; a food to all our liking;

my favorite, her home baked bread.

Not one to be frivolous, not my Mom. She saved every penny that she

could. When it could be made with her own hands, the stores were wanting

to be sure. It has even been told to me that?  my sister much older? had carefully entreated my Mom that she had tried to stretch jello? ha?

Some kind of cook this lady was. The aroma within our kitchen would make

a king drool. Her meats, her veggies, her cakes and her desserts were

unequaled in our sights. She made a lovely pudding which we called Float.

It was a simple dessert of basic foods but when her culinary hands took

charge, watch out my friend, you were in for a treat of treats.

Many the foods that we ate were devised from our dairy cow such as our

butter, our cream and our cottage cheese. I am yet to savor the taste of today's

cottage cheese that will equal that of my Moms'

Although all these memories are precious, I assure you, there is one of the many

that touches me yet today and that is her ability to create her masterpiece; homemade

breads. Of course, my dad had his favorite, too; her iron skillet cornbread.

Oh to go back to the days of yore! Are you hungry, yet? I am!!!

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the

mouth of God." (Matt 4:4 KJv)

Yours truly,

NormaLee Liles

Knowing Them By Their Fruit ...

Joyce. C. Lock

? ? ? ?  A prophet is to be proclaiming things heard from God.Whenever God speaks, scripture supports it ... though probably not where someone points, "Thus saith the Lord," stealing God's words (running when He didn't send them).

? ? ? ?  Prophets guide people through their wilderness. You will know them by their fruit, as God reserves spiritual gifts for those who have the heart for it.

? ? ? ?  Within the Bible is God's definition for most every word of significance given in scripture.God is His own best commentator.Teachers forgot to teach themselves.

? ? ? ?  If you are really interested in God's intent, ask Him.Search the scriptures. If you seek God, with your whole heart, He will reveal himself to you.And when His Spirit writes the words upon your heart (which is the truth, as He cannot lie), you will come to 'know' God in newfound ways. The words of His mouth are our necessary food.

? ? ? ?  Some teach, if you pick just one verse, you are taking it out of context. How, on earth could you have taken it out of context if God spoke it to your heart? However God speaks to your need, that word is infallible.Though, it might be true if you are selecting a verse to support your thinking (telling God what He believes).

? ? ? ?  Scripture instructs us to compare spiritual things with spiritual things, rightly dividing the words of truth.Deliberately written so the lost would not understand it, you will find the real truths in the hidden parts; as God reveals them to you.

? ? ? ?  Additionally, when someone speaks in the Spirit, touching your spirit, you can believe God; knowing He dwells within them and you.
