Things Not to Believe

Joyce C. Lock

Let babies cry.It is good for their lungs.

When crying is the only means of communication by which an infant can express that they have a need, emotional abandonment is not a response of love.

Children are to be seen and not heard.

If it annoyed God to hear from us, we would be up a creek without a paddle.

'Sparing the rod' means the child will be spoiled.

Thy rod and thy staff shall comfort thee.Spare the comfort and the child will turn to spoil.

Kids get over it.

How many childhood hurts do you remember, wherein the response was not love?

This hurts me more than it does you.

Yea, right!

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Punishing or accusing a child, in advance of being tempted, eliminates motive for doing right.

Ministering to adults is more important than to children.

Train up a child to love God and the church and, when he is old, he will love the church.

Children are the future leaders of tomorrow.

If children are not aloud to serve today, they will not be leading tomorrow.

Do not cause children to suffer by telling them they can not serve Jesus.

If you were not guilty this time, count it for the times you were guilty but did not get caught.

Not even our law judges a person before they have had a chance to speak for themselves.

If you get into trouble at school, you should also get into trouble at home.

God does not punish twice for the same crime and double jeopardy is against the law, when done to adults.

It is not punishment. It is discipline.

Punishment, by any other name, is still the same.

Obedience to teachings of men will win you favor with God.

If any lack wisdom, ask God yourself.

We do things to our children that God does not even do to us.

Child Abuse was once legal, in the name of the Lord.

Who are we listening to now?

Is it not about time we use the brain God gave us,

let God be our example and become spiritual ministers toward our children,

instead of waiting for others to do it?

A Letter To My Daughter
September?  25, 2005

Robert Gilbert

RGBLUEBOY@aol.com

? ?  I was watching Television earlier thisevening, about a young girl and her mother?
? ?  surviving on their own.
? ?  I began to think about my young daughter, so I decided to sit down and write her a?
? ?  letter:

?  My Dearest Darling,
? ?
? ?  I am not sure, if you will get this letter.?
? ?  I got the address from your grandparents
? ?  They was a surprise sound in their voice, when I asked for it.
? ?  Guess they wondered, why I waited all this time to write you.
? ?  This is the last address they had, as to your where about.

? ?  I don??™t even know, if you will open this letter or not.
? ?  But, if you do, I hope this finds you and your mother doing ok.
? ?  I am so sorry for not telling you goodbye, those years ago.
? ?  Your mother and I fought all the time, and I did not want our home to be like that.
? ?  So, I just left.

?  There is not a minute of the day that goes bye, that I do not think about you.
? ?  I always wondered what kind of boy, would be your Prince Charming.
? ?  But, I am sure he would be a good boy.
? ?  I always tried to raise you right, while I was there.

? ?  I hope you have been doing well in school.?
? ?  Education, is the most important thing in a young person??™s life.
? ?  Don??™t be like me, and just live from day to day.?
? ?  Always, do your best, and you will come out on top of the world.
? ?  I did not get your mother things that she asked for, I spent my money for beer.
? ?  Not even caring, if we had groceries or not.

?  The years have gone bye so quick, I can??™t even remember how old you would be now.
? ?  Not even sure, how old your mother is.
? ?  I just know that I feel so old, and alone.

?  I visualize, how a beautiful young girl, you must be now
? ?  I just wished I had been there, for your 13th Birthday.
? ?  A Teenager.
? ?  I wished I had been there for your first day of school.
? ?  Heck, I wished I had been there for your Prom night too.
? ?  Cinderella, you must have been.
? ?  Wished I had been there to teach you some dances, but your Mom was a very good? ?
? ?  dancer.
? ?  So, you did not really need my help with that.

I don??™t even know if you married, and if I am a grandfather or not.
? ?
? ?  You don??™t know how many times, I wished I could have gone back in time and made? ?
? ?  things right for you.

? ?  I know I should have at least called you, but I did not want to hear you say,
? ?  ???Daddy, please come home???.

? ?  I am not sure, if I am writing this letter correctly or not.
? ?  My spelling must be awful.?
? ? ?
? ?  Sure hope you can read my writing.

?  Yes, I have been drinking.

? ?  Maybe, that??™s why I had to write this letter to you.

? ?  I have spent many nights along side of the road in a ditch.
? ?  Don??™t have any money for a room.
? ?  But, I do have my bottle.

? ?  Don??™t know how many states I have been to.
? ?  Truthfully, I am not sure where I am now.

? ?  I Just hope that you will read this, and know, that I do Love You, Very Much.

? ?  Tell your mother I am ok, if she should care, and hope that she is too.

?  I hope that someday, you can forgive me, for not being in your life
? ?  sooner.

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?  All My Love, Now and Forever,?
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?  Dad

?  Several weeks later, I called my Mother and Dad, and asked about a letter from you.?
? ?  They said, ???You got the letter back???.
? ?  It went to
Dallas, San Diego, Phoenix, Baltimore, then back here to
? ?
Chicago.
? ?
? ?  ???A note was attached to the letter, from the Post Office,??? my mother said.
? ?  It said, ???If you would like to forward this letter to the correct address, here is the new? ? ?
? ?  address that we have found???.

? ?  Attention:?  Our Daughter Cindy
? ?  C/O?  Jesus in Heaven
? ?  Zip? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?  26435
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?  (Angel)

? ?  My Heart just stopped beating, as the memories came back to life.
? ?  I realized, no matter how drunk I was, that our daughter had passed away, many years
? ?  ago, at the age of 5.?
? ?  She would have been 35 now.

~ Enjoy Your Nectarine . . . .
and remember genuine service and quality product builds a great business

Keith Ready

I live in an area where there a number of what can be described as the traditional family run corner store. From my perspective, the success and viability of the corner store business is totally dependent on good product, good service and convenience combined with great people working behind and in front of the counter. In recent years there has been a resurgence in the corner store business, mainly because many of us are now extremely time poor and need convenience when we shop. Enough of the background, now to my story.

Within walking distance of my home is a unique corner store business. It is owned and run by a local family and it offers a variety of general groceries and convenience items, plus some really great 'cooked on the premises' food that you can take home, heat up and eat plus a sensational selection of really good quality fruit and vegetables.

For the last three years I have been a regular customer and mainly for one product - fresh red apples, which I have then given away at the conclusion of training and workshop programs I have conducted on delivering exceptional customer service. Over that time, I estimate that I have purchased in excess of 1500 apples from this corner store because they always have fresh, crunchy, quality red apples with no bruises and dints in them. I am sure you would not be surprised when I tell you that in all that time, I have not had a bad apple.

What has always amazed me about this business is that often just as I am about to leave, the father who the business is named after, presents me with a fresh piece of fruit, such as a nectarine. Just before this happens, I usually see him out of the corner of my eye go over to the fruit section - pick out a piece of fruit, give it the once over and an affectionate polish on his apron, then with a big smile on his face - he offers it to me with his compliments. Now call this what you wish, I see this gesture as a simple expression of appreciation for my business and that he make his customers feel good. The pay off is that I keep coming back to shop not just for the great apples and the free piece of fresh fruit, but because he makes me feel extra special and appreciated.

Nick's Quality Fruit Supply in Narraweena is owned and run by Nick (the father), Maggie (his daughter) and the other members of the family. They always smile, acknowledge and talk to their customers in a warm and friendly manner and as you would expect they know most of their customers by their first name, including me.

I am sure that Nick, Maggie and all the family also know instinctively that if you treat your customers with genuine courtesy and respect, do the little things very well, appreciate them, offer them the best quality product and are always pleased to be of service - you will create a very successful business and they have.

So what is the message behind this story - when you have your business running with all the right ingredients in place and working well, you have time to do the extra little things that make your customers feel special and talk about you!

Put simply, when we get it all going right, then we can deliver the nectarines in our business
