The
White Pages of Creation
Maria
Doherty
?
I write upon
the pages of creation, my words seeding the infinite void with embryonic lives
of infinite potential, spilling into the world, black on white.
In each moment of life we are gifted with the inviting brilliance of a new
page.
It is ours to write anything we chose upon.
In its whiteness lies the power of redemption, the force of renewal and
re-creation.
Upon the shining blankness of the page, we see the raw material of the
universe, the energy of creation.
Upon this page, we may chose to reconcile the past, heal the present and
unleash the infinite creativity of the future.
Upon this page, we may chose to hurl the world into darkness, prostituting our
words in the service of a twisted ego, a sadistic, perverted mind, revealing one
of the many corrupt faces of evil in this world.
In our words we hold the mirror to our souls.
In each clear and shining moment, we have a choice.
We may scratch the surface meanly with our spiritually miserly pen and ink,
leaving only an ugly jagged trail, spoiling the beauty and purity of the page.
We may scarcely leave a perceptible mark, writing with the invisible ink of
life blood diluted by fear, timidity, deference and hesitation.
We may throw ourselves joyfully, unashamedly in abundant abandon upon the page.
We may leave playful, exuberant, effervescent, emphatic paw prints upon the
pristine paper.
We may pirouette in the spotlight of our words, craving the eyes of the world
upon us, betraying the redemptive potency of our words, for forty pieces of
sparkling silver applause.
We can chose to sell our words to a world ready to devour more darkness, cheap
at the price but heavy in cost to our souls.
We can chose to be the creators of the universe and in the image and likeness
of our words, our world becomes a place of abundant joy, overflowing love and
deep connection to the purity of spirit.
Words have power. Chose them wisely.
What will you chose to write upon the face of creation?
What world will you weave with the tapesty of your words?
Words are
incredibly powerful and communication is an awesome gift. It is also one whose
potency we should be aware of and use with integrity. When I think about Hitler
and how he used the majesty and beauty of words to such evil and corrupt ends;
when I think how so many in public life indulge in ???spin??? which is simply
another word for deception, it makes me so angry.
Yet others like Tolkien weave their words into parables of the triumph of good
over evil; men like Gandhi use them like a light shining in the darkness to
show us a better way. That is what gives me hope,,joy and inspiration.
We do have choice; our choice may be curtailed by our circumstances but even
then we have the choice of how we think. One of my few heroes is Viktor
Frankl and this quotation from him is my favourite. I pray that none
of us ever find ourselves in similar surroundings but if we do, I hope we
remember and hold on to that last great freedom.
???We who lived in concentration
camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others,
giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but
they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one
thing: the last of the human freedoms ??“ to choose one??™s attitude in any given
set of circumstances, to choose one??™s own way.???
I have
difficulty with the whole concept of heroes and find it almost impossible to
answer when someone asks me who my heroes are. A man like Viktor Frankl is
about as close as it comes for me. That clear shining spirit of love radiating
out into the world in the most hellish of dark evil places., that is
the meaning of a man; that is the spark of the divine; that is love made flesh.
Somehow today, love has acquired a bad press. People who are truly loving are
somehow seen as weak. When you look at the lives of those who live a life
illuminated by that central core of love, there is nothing weak about them.
They are swords of truth forged from something stronger, more mystical and more
precious than any Excalibur. They are the light bearers of this world. They are
my heroes.
Remember that it is the light in you that is drawn to those who walk in the
Light, men like Viktor Frankl.? I only wish more people would open their
souls and see what is already there, just waiting for the switch to be turned
on.
Ah, what a philosophical turn the mind takes when you have walked in the light
of the Full Moon and listened to the foxes singing in the woods.
