One perfect night

Saskia Nienna Streidel

It is late, almost midnight. I just came home from work and found him sleeping in this small bedroom under the roof of this cute wooden house that we call our home right now. Usually it is very dark in our bedroom. He is not used to darkness. He never knew how dark nights are exposed to be. He never knew what night is, before he moved here with me. He is a typical city boy from Las Vegas. It is never dark there. And even in Saarbruecken, where he lived when I met him, it was never dark. The city does not allow the night to be. But here it is dark. No street lights, just the stars.

Well, today it is not dark. The moon shines bright. I can see his face in the bed. When I lay down and turn my head to the side, I can see the sky, the stars, the moon, and the old wise trees on the hill behind our house. I see the chicken houses, the ducks house, the place where we keep our wood for the winter. And all I hear is the water of the creek outside and here, inside our room, all I hear is my life. I hear him breathing. That is all that matters. So I lay down next to him, till I feel his breath on my mouth. I take his hand into mine. Winner hands! I hold them up. It looks like the end of a box fight. The winner is??¦.US. And with this winner hands, the light of the moon shining on? his face, and? his breath on my mouth, I fall to sleep.

That is the perfect night!

THE LITTLE FRENCH COFFEE POT

Doris B. Fandal

I have a small blue speckled coffee pot that is a
French style pot.?  I don't know if they use them in
France or not but when I bought my first one, they
told me it was a French Coffee Pot so that is what it
is.?  But there is a story behind this pot so listen or
should I say read on and see what it is.?  The French
coffee pots in my life had secrets and if I don't
tell, they never will.
When I was first married, we lived in
South Louisiana
and frequently would drive to my in-law's home on
Sunday for lunch or just for the afternoon.? ?  My new
mother-in-law would always offer me a cup of coffee
made in her own French coffee pot and I would accept.
I had to force down every swallow because I was from
North Louisiana and my mother's coffee was like
colored water compared to hers that was almost black.
For such a very long time, she would offer the coffee
and I would accept and felt that I couldn't say no.
Then one weekend, she offered me a cup and I decided
to be honest and tell her the truth.?  I said, "No
thanks, I have to tell you that I just don't like your
coffee."?  She just smiled and offered me something
else to drink.?  Later that day I walked back into the
kitchen after she had returned from a shopping trip
and there on the stove was a French coffee pot just
for me, and a bag of my kind of coffee!?  In case I
haven't mentioned it already, I had the very best
mother-in-law in the world and that is just one
example of the reason I loved her so much.? ? ?  Well, my
husband liked his mom's kind of coffee so before I
knew it, I had quit using the weaker kind and was
drinking the almost black coffee.?
The little pot finally wore out and we bought an
electric pot which we used until it wore out too. The
process continued and never did we have another French
pot until I started reminiscing and wanting a French
pot. I looked and looked and couldn't find one
anywhere.?  It seems as though they quit selling them.
I began to dislike that electric pot more and more as
I wished for the little French pot.
Then one day, as we were driving down a road to
Southwest Louisiana, I spotted a sign for an
antique/gift shop and the sign had a French pot on it!
? I insisted that we leave the main highway and drive
to the small town with the shop.?  When we arrived,
there was the pot I wanted sitting in the window.?  The
lady at first did not want to sell it to me because
she said it was the last one she had and it had a
small chip in the enamel.?  I did not care even though
the price marked on it was terribly high.?  I paid
fifty dollars for that little pot.?  The original pot
in 1961 only cost me five dollars!?  We have coffee
every Sunday afternoon from that little pot and each
time I look at it, I remember my wonderful
mother-in-law and my first French pot.
Someday I hope my daughters-in-law will have memories
of things that will bring back pleasant memories of me
and remind them that perhaps I was "the best
mother-in-law" in the world to them.

computer andvolunteering as a chemoangel (www.chemoangel.com) and

I started writing for my own pleasure and as a way of releasing tension soon after I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 1999.?  I also am a moderator of an online b.c. support group.(4bcsurvivors)?  B.C. changed my life; made me realize the wonder of it all and has

given me many new friends, new experiences, and a joy of living that is not like the joy I experienced before b.c.?  I lost both of my parents to cancer so the fight to find a
cure is very important to me.?  I am an outspoken advocate and try very hard to help educate anyone I see about health issues, especially related to breast health.?  I would love to hear from anyone who reads my stories and enjoys my stories or even those who can tell me how they

Touched

Joyce C. Lock?

In all I see and say and do,
I remember Jesus and my call to you,

To let you see Christ is in me,
As He has touched my life - that's how it should be.

As you find this in me is true,
May you invite Jesus and let Him touch you, too.

Readers Feedback

In praying and seeking God for some guidance and confirmation on where I seem to be going in what I hoped was HIS leading I opened my e-mail this morning on the Storytime Tapestry Newsletter and find a short way into my reading one of my most favorite "holding scriptures" I have stood on for guidance and confirming through the years. Isn't God so good!?  Amen! and Amen!

It was under the poem of Joyce Locks "Words to Share'? ?  thank you dear Carol and staff and thank you Joyce Lock for being obedient to HIS Spirit and sharing what HE has for you each day.? ?  Hugs? ?  Leona

P.S. The scripture was "Faithful is HE that calleth you who will also do it."?  1 Thess. 5:24

A MAN NEEDS HIS SPACE TOO BY RICHARD SIMS: Beautiful issue.?  You are making me remember Loren Moore.?  Just the exact way Loren would have explained about himself and Jonnie.?  Thanks a great deed.

GEORGEWATERS OJEIGBE ??“ Lagos, Nigeria gojiegbe@jhplc.com

IN MEMORY??¦ALWAYS Of LOREN MOORE: A perfect description of His Legendary LOREN MOORE; he was always amusing readers with his style of writing.?  I??™m always remembering him.?  He was always talking about CADDO LAKE and hunting.?  I still remember that hunting when he forgot his gun under him while he was up on a tree running from a big bear, how I laughed like a mad man that faithful day I read it.?  I wish Jonnie would fit in her late husband??™s shoes.

GEORGEWATERS OJEIGBE ??“ Lagos, Nigeria gojiegbe@jhplc.com

Oh this was nice - thank you for sending George??™s email on Carol!!

Darn, I miss that man.......hardly a day passed that we weren't in touch.?  Now usually he was picking on me - but I loved it and he knew it.

Prayer Requests and Updates

Well, they finally gave us news on Nikki.... and it's not exactly what they told her in the beginning.?  In two weeks, she has to go in for her bone marrow test... then she will stay there for another round of Chemo from which she will be shipped directly to Cleveland for the transplant.?  The Chemo is what the doctor's said nearly killed her before, but the doctor's in Cleveland ordered that she have a chemo treatments here before she leaves for there.?  Nikki is spastic.. and David isn't doing too well either.?  Please keep her in prayer as her ordeal begins all over again.?  Love, Al
