HOW CAN THEY?

Sharon Bryant

Nothing is more sweeter and cuter than a cuddly little puppy.  Not much else can warm a heart faster than seeing a little puppy being so happy to see his family members.  And yet, there are some that do not have these feelings towards puppies.

And I say, "How Can They?"

This past week a man took two puppies and a dog a little older to the vet's office.  Each one was injured seriously.  The puppies were 10 weeks old.  One had a gash from his eye to his lip.  He had to be sedated and many stitches were used to sew the little guy up.

The second puppy had a large gash across its throat.  Bleeding badly when first brought in, the vet wasn't sure the little guy was going to make it.

The third was a little older, and pregnant.  Her stomach was ripped open and on one side of her body, blood seeped through a gaping hole.

What happened?

These young dogs were used as bait in a pit bull ring.  It is happening all over this country.  Just on my local news this past week a dog was literally torn apart from being used as bait.

It's sad that there are people out there that have no heart for these young animals.  It's sad that they will take an innocent puppy and throw him into a ring of vicious dogs, to make them more vicious.  Just recently in my neighborhood, two dogs went into a neighbor's yard and attacked their dog, killing it.

Whoever the people are who are using little puppies as bait, I can only hope for one thing.  That the day comes when they are face to face with someone who is much larger than them, much stronger.  I hope they start something with the other person and I hope that person knocks their lights out, so perhaps they may know in a small way, what it feels like.

I can't imagine harming a little dog.  I can't imagine having dogs to use for fighting.  I can't imagine not caring about your animals and bringing them into your family and treating them with love and kindness.  I can't imagine a mind that thinks like that or a heart that has no compassion.  And I keep wondering....."How Can They?"
