Special Treat – Chris Shiveley

May 7, 2006

Hey Gang, here we have the story of Chris’s 14th birthday as promised.

Birthday Boy

Chris Shiveley

May 1 was my birthday.  I turned fourteen.

My birthday started out as a normal school day.  After school I went home and did my homework.  Mom had made me a cake and, much to my surprise, I got a few presents.  You see, I had gotten a new bike the day before so that Dad and I could pick it out together.  I thought that would be it.  Not true!  Out of the blue, Mom and Dad got me more presents like a necklace of a soaring eagle (Soaring Eagle is my NdN name) a CD wallet and some new clothes for sports and outside stuff.

To make the day better, my book was out and I got birthday messages from so many nice people.  I had some birthday cake.  It’s called Welch’s Birthday Pudding Cake.  It has pudding in the middle with pieces of cake and cool whip mixed in.  It’s chewy and chocolaty and rich.

Granddad called and I also got to talk to my Uncle Jeff.  He's a copy and really cool.

My special day was a good day.  I didn’t get too many presents, which is good, but I got a lot of love.

I firmly believe that I have received the same child I was meant to receive whether I gave birth or adopted.  The same soul, the same entity was meant to be mine from the beginning of time. Debra Shiveley Welch "A Very Special Child"
