Today’s announcements

Happy Birthday Bonnielee, Charles Glover, and Julie Bowles!

Okay guys and gals the Mother’s Day submissions begins today and will run until I have no more stories in the queue.  No contest this time around as I am trying out a new experiment. I am going to give you the publisher’s pick, meaning my favourite story, as I will exercise my right as a publisher to do that.  But afterwards I will ask the writers how they feel about it. If they are not comfortable with a publisher’s pick we will drop it and go back to contests where everyone has a right to vote.

Incidentally, the last poll indicated that more people preferred contests as opposed to not having any at all. If and when we go back to contests, I want everyone who voted for contests to honour their vote and actually vote in the contests otherwise we are doing all of this for nothing.

Now onto the good stuff!

MEANINGS OF MOTHER!
Stella Thompson

Its funny how in life what you know a lot about i.e.
your history, culture, tradition, religion and even
your friends someone else from some faraway place on
the planet decides to /tell you what do/

Well! that's how it was with us for years.  We had had
a happy childhood in
Ireland and knew everything about
ourselves and all by way of the nuns at the convent!
Oddly enough we spent many a good hour talking and
chatting with the Sisters and developed quite the
relationship that was both happy and sad!

Sister had a great story altogether about how we were
all descended from European ancestry: for example, it
could be ... Italian, French ... and ... Portuguese!

In our case, we had been British from Birth and got
used to it!   However, the idea of the Queen of
England as our Culture Mother never dawned on us!  The
Church was our Father on earth since God was our
Father in Heaven!

The Queen of
England was depicted locally as the
richest woman in the World and without a doubt a
member of The Ruling Class in
Ireland!  Not that it
mattered; we just got on with playing, skipping and
jumping on and off stones in the river!   We all
wanted to be doctors just like the boys and were keen
to exercise our intellectual might alongside theirs!

One day, Our Mother arrived:  she was called: Annie
and she had all us children to bring up!  There were
11 of us and we were never left hungry or dirty!  We
were all bathed and cleaned up /smart as paint/...

Each night, before going to bed the procedures were
the same, washing, homework, playing and then ... well
... saying the rosary ... we all got down on our knees
around the log fire and prayed until 9 o'clock....
that God would make saints of us rather than sinners
and that even if we never became doctors or famous
people we would always give great thanks to God our
Eternal Father for our lives here on earth!

Our Mother in another sense was the Blessed Virgin
Mary ... and most girls had the name "Mary" attached
to their logo in one way or another!  Perhaps due to
our European ancestry our names were written and
spoken in a number of languages including English!
Well the Mother Of God was Our Mother so we believed
... she was prayed to - daily at the local Catholic
Church and she answered our prayers!  Those were the
days of our well spent youth and how we learnt to
define the word MOTHER as good, true and a LADY!   May
God Bless all our Mothers in heaven and on earth ...

Or Step Mothers

Foster Mother's

Surrogate Mothers

God Mothers

Adopted Mothers

Or, even, Grandmothers

Who have been Mothers

Wanna be Mothers

Are gonna be Mothers

Who have Mothers

Like Mothers

Or, have ever been blessed by a Mother,

In Memory or In Hope ...

Count Your Blessings
and
Have A Wonderful Mother's Day!

MOMS

Joyce C. Lock

God gave us Moms to help fill our Need;

Bandaging our Wounds when we really Bleed,

Teaching us of God's wonderful Love

And of our Savior who came from Above,

Helping us grow in Wisdom and Grace

And Preparing us for a better Place.

Carol,
Sharlett's writing about her new location certainly gives you a warm and happy
feeling.  She is so deserving of this place. I hope it brings her pleasure for years.

Sharlette,,

I have finished reading about your new home with more than a little interest!  I live in North Central Florida.  You may have heard of Ocala.

I was born about 35 miles from here and I have lived in FL all my life.

Good luck with your new home.  Write me if you can spare the time.

Have a great week.

Dorothy
