Subject: Note about the call for submission for both canadian and american founding day celebrations - June27, 2006

Storytime Tapestry Newsletter

The newsletter devoted to spreading love and cultural awareness around the world.

Call For Submissions

It has come to my attention that some of you are insulted because, I a Canadian writer and publisher is publishing Canadian content in my newsletter.  This really pains me, for two reasons.

1) Since the inception of the newsletter in 2003, I have promoted The United States of America and my many writers almost to the exclusion of any other nation including my own. I also built this newsletter on the dream of cultural awaresness of all countries and love and respect for each one of them.  Perhaps there are people who got spoiled thinking that America should be promoted over everywhere else or to the exclusion of everywhere else.  That is not cultural awareness, that is cultural exclusion.

2) Recently I have featured a lot of Canadian content, and some people are fussing about it.  I am sorry if you felt that way but that is how it is.  If I receive at another point in time a lot  of Polish content, or Africian content for example that content will be featured as well.

3) Some writers have complained that certain writers are getting published more than others.  May I remind you one more time, is that it depends where you are listed in the queue.  It is first come first serve and if you have sent only 3 submission in 3 months don't complain about the writer that sent in 20 submissions in the same time period.  It seems the ones complaining are the ones that had been featured more often than any other writer yet can't accept the fact that it is someone else's time to have the spotlight.

4) I have had columnists for the longest while, columnists for sure have more submissions then others, but they work darn hard to submit to get that coveted position as well.  I have had East meets West as a column to bring cultural awareness and my dream of my newsletter come true.  I have had a dream columnist, I have had a columnist for interviewing you, the writer.  Now I have a Canadian columnist, and who knows, tomorrow there will be another kind of columnist.  I do my best to introduce different themes.

Now lets look at the columnists:  Hart Dowd - Canadian, East Meets West - Deepak Morris - Indian, Dreams - Parthena Black - American, Fireside Chat - Nicole Stevenson - American.  Is there a pattern there, yes there is it's American.  But there are still people complaining that America is not featured.  I do not understand this petty way of thinking at all.

Finally I understand that some people have misunderstood my call for submission:  I asked for submissions for the two celebrations, Canadian and America.  I said that Canada became a nation on July 1, 1867, and America's colonies formed together to make the United States of America on July 4, 1776. I said Canada celebrates on July 1 and America on July 4 three days later.  The operative word here is day, not date, July 1 comes before July 4, but my point had been to show how close our celebrations are to each other.  I can count - I know that 1776 is older than 1867, I am not stupid, but it was the day, July 1 and July 4th that was important in my message showing unity between nations.  Instead I get an email saying America is older and better.  What is this, where does this negativity come from?  I hate to think that there are people out there that want to destroy the beauty and harmony that has always been Storytime Tapestry.  Remember culural awareness is the mandate of my newsletter, and I have worked hard over three years - no pay - to provide you with a newsletter that was different and better than any other newsletter around because of it.

I am very hurt because of all of this.

And I trust that we can put all this aside now and get on with the business of doing what we like best - reading interesting stories and writing what is in our hearts.

Carol Roach,

Overworked, underpayed and feeling somewhat unappreciated, publisher of Storytime Tapestry.

Canada became a nation on July l, 1867 under the leadership of Sir John A. MacDonald who joined the four provinces of Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, to form Canada.

Three days later, on July 4th our neighbours to the south celebrate the Independence day when the colonies became the United States of America in 1776.

I am looking for stories for both Canada and the USA to celebrate these two momentous celebrations.
