The Forgotten Mother

Bill Walker

I was reading a poem. It is said to have been wrote by a little old lady in her last year or so of life. It was found after her death. It gave me much to think about.

You see I have walked the halls of so called nursing homes. I worked on an ambulance for some years. I know what it is like to go on a run down the halls of these places. I have seen the people there waiting, I have heard the cries, I have had the smell of human waste. You always know the second you open the door, your going to get some of it, or even all of it.

Let me tell you what you will hear. "Oh have you came for me?" "Where have you been?" Makes no difference if they know you or not. They may think your a long lost son. Goodness it has been five years since son came to see the poor old lady. You think I lie, heavens no, I know of such. "Are you going to take me home?" Now at this stage of these peoples lives, this can mean one of two things. Home being earth home, or Heaven. There is another thing that can be said. You go to visit someone who is trapped there. You may have a sack of goodies, cookies or candy. Some flowers you picked out of the flower beds at home. Your going to get this said. "Those flowers for me?" the sack of goodies the same thing. Now I have ended up at the one I was to see with less flowers, and less goodies.

You see the poor little old lady got a flower, a couple cookies, or some candy. You end up with a whole line of wheel chairs of people with the hand out. Some hasn't seen a friendly face in God knows when. So I have this to say. Mothers Day will soon be here. If you have a Mother, a Grand Mother in one of those places. Get up, make a batch of good old home made cookies. Go get a big arm load of flowers and trot your self to the place. Set and talk, hold her hand. Take a new sweater for her. She gets cold at times, she isn't a young girl anymore.

Remember this. Inside that worn old body, is a young girl of many years ago trying to break out. She remembers the care free days of so long ago. It was only yesterday, but here she is now all alone. WAITING to go home. Also remember this if you live long enough, you too will be there,,,, WAITING. How there is another Mother, Grand Mother setting, and waiting. She still is living at her home. Maybe it used to be your home too, when you were a lot younger.

When did you last stop by to see her? This is Mothers Day, why not now? Why not call her up and say, "Mother we will be over, and pick you up for Sunday dinner and we can talk, and go for a ride to see the budding trees, the spring flowers. Or maybe you would like to do something else."

You know maybe it would be the start of every Sunday, a family get together. You do know Mothers like to see the grown up children. They also like to see the grand children. I know of one Granny who would like for her grown children to come for a visit, and bring the grandchildren. Is it because we have other things to do on Mothers Day? There will be other days. The funny thing about there will be other days is simple.

The other days just never show up. Some day, the other days will be too late. She crossed to the other side to be with other family members, and her PUPPIES.

She got tired of waiting for other days. The young girl or lady [which ever she likes to be called at the time] escapes from the worn out body and went home to Heaven.

 The Good Ones, Gone

Bill Walker

wildbill6807@yahoo.com

While back on my travels, I stopped at a rest stop.  I was in the little house minding my own problems, when a man asked me if I remembered who sang a song.  I forget the name of the song now,  but my mind was blank on the remember part.  I said I don't recall.  He said he thought first name was Roger.  I said oh now it comes to me, Roger Miller. We talked a bit more, and last words I said was, The good ones are getting less every day, most is gone.

I think this is true, the good ones are gone, all we have is the memories and the records.  Seems like some are hard to come by, that is the recordings.  We get so much of the late crap, but us older timers like the songs and singers of yesterday year.  That was music you know. Stuff that one could understand, not this jump hip hop crap. Stuff  of yesterday year that didn't have garbage talk mixed in with what ever some might call music.

Some one sent me a list of fine gospel music. I was looking at the greats listed, also reading what some one had to say about a certain person of yesterday year. I think what the person said fits so many of the greats, heck it fits most of us sinners. Remember no one is prefect, not even the greats. We all slip and slide along most of the time.

Now this list was made up by the likes of Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams Sr, Johnny Cash, and many others.  Got me to thinking what I have heard some small minded preachers say about the ones on my list. I also went back and read what the writer said about one. Made me think about how we all slip and slide. We all are sinners, none is prefect. I think when some one finds fault with what some ones else does or may have done in the past.  Maybe they would be better served to sweep the door step at their own door. I am sure if the truth was known, they too have slipped a few dozen times also.

Back to my main thought, yes a lot of the good ones are gone, never to make a new song great.  Maybe those are in Heaven setting at the feet of the master.  Not my place to say they are not.  Judge not least you be judged.

Giving Your Best

Joyce Lock

Be a doorknob, if that is the need.

Be a planter that is planting seed.

Be a blessing, so that you can be blest.

Be a Christian whose giving your best.

Sow to yourselves in righteousness,

reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground:
for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come

and rain righteousness upon you.

God Always Wins

 Joyce Lock

If ever there was a night so wrong,
It's giving praises to Satanic thrones -

Giving him credit when everything's amiss;
Forgetting God and who He is.

For, in the night, there should be song;
Rejoicing in light until it is shone ...

Letting God carry you through,
Until He's shown His love toward you.

It doesn't matter the tactic or scare,
Our Heavenly Father is always there.

For when the battle comes to an end,
We're reminded again ~ God always wins!

God Gives A Song

Joyce Lock

When in need of hope, God gives a song
And holds our hand (all the night long) ...

'Til light overshadows, changing the view,
And morning comes ~ strengthened anew.
